Gerald D. Gant likes to shoplift at the Mall of America and says he isn't going to stop.
At least that is what he told Bloomington police after he was arrested Sunday for stealing two pairs of designer sunglasses from the Solstice store, according to a court document.
Gant, 43, was videotaped by security staff stealing Prada sunglasses priced at $285 and Gucci sunglasses that cost $295. Gant allegedly removed the sales tags and left the store without paying for them.
He was caught and the sunglasses were recovered.
"As officers were escorting Gant, he said that he steals from the Mall of America all the time and he is not going to stop," Bloomington police investigator Tim Brosam wrote.
Brosam wrote that Gant was convicted for offering a forged check in Ramsey County in 2005.

Back thirty or forty years ago, the store detective would have escorted him into the back warehouse and used a nightstick to strategically and painfully convince this person he might want to find another place to ply his anti-social hobby.
Too bad we are so enlightened these days. He’ll be released with a court date, which he will miss, an arrest warrant will be issued, which will be ignored. He’ll keep stealing until he gets caught again, and then the same thing will most likely happen, again...
The article was in black print on black...so my ? is did the twerp give a reason why...he will continue to steal from Mall of America?

Well, the good news is that this doorknob will probably be serving more time than the woman in rural Minnesota that drove her van into the side of a school bus at a rate of speed that caused the bus to roll over, killing four children.
With no driver’s licence. And only a state ID. Convicted two years ago for diving without a license.

Leave the poor man along, he’s just pickup what someone else would not pick up, especially if he’s already got it. I mean when judges starting ruling that illegals can drive without drivers license, well what’s a little shop lifting.:^)
