Just look for smith288. I'm sure (s)he and the silent majority, that want change, have a thread twice the size of this one going somewhere. LOL!

Ever heard of the silent majority? Far more are not moved to long running threads around link changes and some interface differences than are.

Go BUCKS btw ;)

Techcrunch, engadget, macrumors and even Joomla forums is well above FR in success and reach.

Lots of ads and pop-ups with blinking lights, bells and whistles.

That is what I like about FR, it doesn't have those things to distract from the content.

I find those more cumbersome and difficult to maneuver and got a mega error message from one of them!

Gotta go clear my cache and cookies.

Well ... the history of web forums only dates back about ten years.

Hi Cuz, and it’s not even Easter yet!

Remember this one when FR changed colors and format?

Titled “This Is Awful!” from March 2002.

“What’s Happening?” LOL. Made me laugh.

Now that was a scream, lots of bent people on that thread!

I noticed some of the most prolific posters on it aren’t “here” anymore.

The Grunion will be running early this year, and they are bigger than ever. And quite vicious.

I think it will take more than a 12 gauge to take them on this year.

Dr. Zoo has one in captivity in the hot tub in the Laboratory.

I don’t know what was done to it, but it has fangs and they are in the lower jaw!

So, is this a bug or a feature, anyone know?

Any new bug is called an undocumented feature, and may be exploited as an extra for those who use it to pay for it.

I think having all the comments mashed together are going to draw more posters into the Religion threads. I don’t think that’s such a good idea. Those threads can get pretty heated even when you’re used to the forum rules. For people who are used to duking it out in Chat and News- I just don’t know....

A fatal logic flaw in the new design.

In sequential logic, most FR users will open to see articles, frequently shall drill down to comments to see which topics are actually most newsworthy by category, then refresh either at the top of bottom of the listing page.

The new setup doesn’t allow one to shift from All comments to a category listing and relist by category all the comments.

Every time the comments button is pushed, it defaults to all categories, instead of the default category page last listed.

Recommend when the comments command is executed, it regenerates the most recent list of posted comments as sorted from the page category in use in the screen where it is executed from. Whether intentional or not, this functionality was very efficient from the last Comments button design.

Another recommendation is make sure the browse, comments, and post buttons are all the same size and larger than the rest by one pitch size, centrally located at both top and bottom of page.

Ever heard of the silent majority?

Considering I stated such in the reply of mine you quoted, yeah, heard all about them.

Heard from them? Not so much.

You must be the one they communicate with. Do they communicate telepathically, use sign language or something else?

I know what you mean and I in no way support adding blinking flash ads or a cornucopia of colors. Those sites are ad supported because of their popularity and no fund drives to keep afloat. The fact they are that successful even with ads says something.

A cohesive website where all your main actions are found in the same area on every page is what I want.

Usage of a common style sheet and maybe a hint of ajax to make posting to the forum a little more simplistic for the user. I know that could add to bandwidth (if done wrong) but with the right usage of compression and caching technology, these new techniques would actually lessen the bandwidth on FR and lower overall operating costs as whole page loads wouldn't need to occur.

Just some current standards to push FR into the 20th century (maybe we can talk 21st century in 10 yrs)

So far, I like most of the changes. The code generating “add topic” has a typo, and it generates the full URL (including “/posts”) so adding a topic requires cutting, pasting, and editing the URL when needed (admittedly that is rare). Also, I’d prefer that “my comments” screen showed the whole comment whether to or from.
