In October 2003, as the computer world buzzed about what cool new gadget he would introduce next, Apple CEO Steve Jobs - then presiding over the most dramatic corporate turnaround in the history of Silicon Valley - found himself confronting a life-and-death decision.
During a routine abdominal scan, doctors had discovered a tumor growing in his pancreas. While a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is often tantamount to a swiftly executed death sentence, a biopsy revealed that Jobs had a rare - and treatable - form of the disease. If the tumor were surgically removed, Jobs' prognosis would be promising: The vast majority of those who underwent the operation survived at least ten years.
Yet to the horror of the tiny circle of intimates in whom he'd confided, Jobs was considering not having the surgery at all. A Buddhist and vegetarian, the Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) CEO was skeptical of mainstream medicine. Jobs decided to employ alternative methods to treat his pancreatic cancer, hoping to avoid the operation through a special diet - a course of action that hasn't been disclosed until now.
For nine months Jobs pursued this approach, as Apple's board of directors and executive team secretly agonized over the situation - and whether the company needed to disclose anything about its CEO's health to investors. Jobs, after all, was widely viewed as Apple's irreplaceable leader, personally responsible for everything from the creation of the iPod to the selection of the chef in the company cafeteria. News of his illness, especially with an uncertain outcome, would surely send the company's stock reeling. The board decided to say nothing, after seeking advice on its obligations from two outside lawyers, who agreed it could remain silent.

Wow, this is indeed shocking. He’s also dammed lucky. Most people with Pancreatic Cancer don’t last as long as he did pissing away time with a ‘snake oil diet’. Of course he did survive, so perhaps the diet wasn’t all bad.
Wow, never knew about this. Just saw today where Patrick Swayze also has pancreatic cancer
Interesting article...
I had a boss that I liken to Steve Jobs. A lot of people hated her with a vitriolic passion, and even though she is gone several years now, people still talk about her non-stop.
She never mistreated me, I guess she was comfortable with my work, but she was pretty hard on a lot of people and made a lot of enemies.
And she did get a lot done, that might not have been accomplished in that environment by anyone else, so I give her credit.
Did you ever see the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”? Everyone who saw the movie swears it is the story of my ex-boss. I know when I saw it, I damn near giggled all the way through it...they were absolutely right.
After she left and went to another job, there was something in a newspaper article that someone put on the wall about a lawsuit against her and someone accusing her of threatening him with a flame thrower, which he maintained she had the training to use from her Army career. We all just fell out when we heard that.
Love or hate her, nobody could be indifferent, nobody could stop talking about her and nobody could stop dreading hearing their name paged to her office, even now when she has been gone. People still say it makes their stomach tighten up.
I suspect she might like hearing that, if she ever did...

He had no more to do with putting that first Apple together than I did. It was the other Steve. Steve Wozniak. The real brains behind the creation of the hardware...and the software. Yes...I know it was a 'team' effort and Woz had no clue about what he had. But without Woz, no one would ever have heard of Jobs.
And without Jobs no one would ever have heard of Woz. One to design it, one to sell it, a good team.
See...I'm not so sure about that. What he cobbled together from spare parts was so revolutionary that I think at some point, without Jobs, someone else would have seen the potential. Remember, Woz had a great many contacts in local clubs. They were hankering for something like this and Woz had the software in his head to make the thing usable.
Steve Jobs was just an abrasive annoyance to most people he met. Brilliant, but annoying.
“What he cobbled together from spare parts was so revolutionary that
I think at some point, without Jobs, someone else would have seen
the potential.”
More than likely that’s true.
But it does give one pause when reading how even the guys at
HP reviewed and then said “no thanks” to HP employee Woz’s homegrown work.
As detailed in the book “Bill And Dave” (amazon link below).
In financial terms, one of the other great mistakes listed in the book
is when Bank of America lost millions in financial profits when they
declined to loan money to the fledgling HP.
(HP took their banking biz to a small local bank that made lots
of $$$ off HP.)

Jobs hired Ron Johnson from Target to launch Apple's retail stores.
A Buddhist and vegetarianHeh... he was also on an all-carrot diet for a while (turned orange, got carotene poisoning or something), and in his college days and from time to time thereafter would go on weeks-long fasts. After trying out life as a fruitarian, he became vegetarian, but apparently mostly he eats fruit. :')
No, I suspect Jobs would have turned out somewhere in whatever became the computer world; possibly as a marketer at IBM.
Remember, without Apple, there’s no personal computers at all, or at least they don’t develop until much later. IBM has no reason to make the IBM PC; there’s no Apple to take the market away from. With no IBM PC, there’s no Microsoft. With no Microsoft, Bill Gates winds up as a McDonald’s manager.
Woz is a brilliant engineer but a lousy marketer. I’ve been lucky enough to meet both Woz and Jobs, and really *both* were needed for Apple to get the Apple I and II out there. My summary: Woz could build a computer out of shoelaces and some tin foil, but he couldn’t sell water to a man dying of thirst. Jobs couldn’t engineer a lamp (an exaggeration) but he could sell ice, a deep freeze, an accompanying refrigerator, and an air conditioning system to the denizens of the South Pole. The man is an incredible marketer/salesman when he wants to be.
Without Woz, there wouldn’t have been the hardware. But without Jobs seeing the greatness of the product, nobody but a few people in NorCal would have ever heard of it.
Actually, at the time, HP saying “no” to something would have been the kiss of death in terms of marketing a product elsewhere. Remember, HP is where the “maverick” engineers went at the time - and if they said “no thanks,” nobody else would have bought it.
And Woz sure couldn’t have sold it on his own.
Subject: John Hopkins is telling about cancer
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY TO ELIMINATE CANCER
, (’TRY,’ BEING THE OPERATIVE WORD) , JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.
THIS FROM THEIR NEWSLETTER THIS YEAR. They are telling us to use nutrition in our battle with Cancer. This is fully compliant. I plan to give this out to friends. It says everything I can’t say.
Doug Bullock
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s lifetime.
3. When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune syst em is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc. are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help pu t the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL , U S - PLEASE READ
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don’t freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately in to the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towe l instead.
Better yet, don’t use the microwave for food as it nukes 100% of the enzymes needed for digestion and also 80% of other nutrition.
