PITTSBURGH -- Imagine your favorite local watering hole nicknaming its daily special after a racial slur. Would you boycott it?
Some University of Pittsburgh students in Oakland are doing just that to popular campus bar the Garage Door Saloon on Atwood Street
The bar is catching some flak for a sign advertising its midweek special: "Wetback Wednesday."
The special nets you five Coronas for $7 and 75-cent tacos.
Some passers-by found the ad hanging in the window of the Garage Door offensive.
"It's a racial slur to Hispanics," said Art Digiacomo, who found the slur offensive. "You wouldn't put the 'N' word up there."
The sign has prompted a group of students to boycott the establishment.
About 260 students, so far, are spreading their message on the social networking site Facebook.
But other students said they might be overreacting.
"I don't find it offensive," one student said. "Just advertising Coronas."
"I've seen 'White Trash Wednesdays' and 'Trailer Park Tuesdays,' and they haven't received any kind of hype," said the bar's owner, who said his name was Mark.
Mark said there are more important issues to worry about.
"There's a lot more things going on in the streets of Oakland, like robberies and stuff like that, opposed to a bar running a drink special and 75-cent tacos," he said.
Garage Door employees have since put a new sign up on the building, which reads, "For the easily offended. Now offering Mexican American Wednesdays."
Employees said it doesnt look like they'll be changing their Wednesday special any time soon, especially since business has picked up since the controversial sign has made headlines
Too bad Pittsburgh is so far from Houston - 75 cent tacos and cheap beer is great combination.
Of course they wouldn't use the N-word this way... There isn't a day of the week that starts with N.
If the students/locals (such as Mr. Digiacomo) are offended, I suggest they take their business elsewhere and let the business owner get on with running his business - and those less sensitive get on with having a good wednesday!
Wow, that's a great deal!
Most students boycott by virtue of the fact they don’t have a good enough fake id.
“It’s a racial slur to Hispanics,” said Art Digiacomo, who found the slur offensive. “You wouldn’t put the ‘N’ word up there.”

No days of the week start with “N.”
I misunderstood and thought they were advertising for wet backs to come there on Wednesday.
I bet homosexuals hate Fridays.
Yeah, all three of them that live here.

LOL! And the special would be????
“For the easily offended. Now offering Mexican American Wednesdays.” [Bring your own wetback]
Nice....
Hey, I’ve got probably 40 doing yard work in my development on any given day, another 20 or so in local eating establishments, and now beginning to see them working the jobs they no longer want to pay Americans to do at grocery stores and malls. I’ll be happy to send a few to your school district if you like?
