In the late 60’s I was involved with a FRiend’s late model circle track car building chassis and roll cages for him. He won the championship several times not only here inEureka but a couple of other tracks in northern Calif. He also won the Nascar Pematex 200 at the Riverside Cal road course in 1972
One day he pulled up to the shop in a new LS6 Chevelle just like the Gold with Black striped one in the trailer and said to me “I want you to go drag racing with this thing”! I put all the speed equipment allowed by the rules including headers, clutch, ignition etc and ran it in the low 12’s that summer.
It came to a halt when his wife rebelled after the stiff clutch broke out the firewall. He told me I could have the engine just for putting in a used 396 because he was trading it in on a 1970 or 71 Torino. I had the engine for years and then sold it to a FRiend in Redding for a high school class 55 Chevy gasser...

It wasn’t an LS-6—it had an aluminum manifold, but not the all-aluminum engine. I think it’s HP was 400.

Yep-—I sold mine for the same reason-—could peg the speedometer and the gas gauge at the same time :)

Everytime I think of muscle cars, the song “Black Betty”, being blasted on an 8-Track, comes to mind.

A friend offered me an old Indian once if I helped him build another. He had taken two completely apart, boxed them, and shipped 'em to Texas. Although I did help with his, wife talked me out of the other.
She did that twice with motorcycles, probably a good thing. LOL
This IS a GOLD MINE!

Oh, SWEET! Can’t imagine how happy this guy is, and how happy he’ll make many other classics owners. Cool story, thanks for the ping. Gonna have to show this to my hubby when he gets home tonight. :)
