Night vision Navy video of US return fire in Iraq (MUST SEE)
U.S. Navy

(UNCLASSIFIED) Courtesy of the U.S. Navy
Guess these guys shouldn't have taken the relaxed walk back to the mosque.. Video taken on Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) sensor in Iraq. The FLIR Sensor produces a video picture based on heat all objects give off.
These terrorists just completed an attack on an American position and had slowed down to a stroll thinking they were home free. WRONG!!! The Chain Gun onboard uses a 30 mm high energy explosive in the bullet. The gun is considered an area weapon but as you can see it is very accurate; you can see the projectiles coming in on these guys. The aircraft was watching them from approximately 1.45 Km or approximately 0.87 miles. As you can see, even though the gun is loud, they were far enough away that they don't even hear or know that they were being watched. A nasty weapon! We also could have used a laser guided missile, but then a cost factor comes in $122.00 worth of bullets vs a $60,000 missile with a 100 lb warhead. Tax dollars well spent!

The video was slow to spool up for me, requiring a couple of page refreshes, but it worked.
As did the gun and the HE munition in the video! Holy cow - those bad guys won't be working any more, except in Satan's service down in hell!

Good shooting. Right on target with two 20 round bursts.
Even the dog escaped unharmed.

Saw the whole thing. It’s not what one might have expected. Its like a garden hose.
Watch the dog in the top right. He only reacts when the bullets splash in - he doesn’t react to the shots. As you intimate, he probably couldn’t hear them.

The guy second from the left looks over his shoulder in his last seconds of life. He heard or saw something but didn’t react.

I don’t think the second volley was needed!

I noticed that too. That animal (I think it was a cat, but it may be a dog) didn't react at all to the firing of the bullets, and it's hearing is, I'm sure, much better than human.
Also, judging from the delay between sound and fury, this weapons platform was a long way from the terget, like, maybe, 3/4 mile. Of course, the sound synchronization may not be accurate in this video.
As I watch them walking, I can't help thinking of the conversation...
So, Achmed, whaddaya say? Are you up for some hoops after dinner?
I don't know, Muhammad. Me and the missus were thinking of just kicking back, watching some tube. You know how it is.
Hey, I hear ya, guy. Well, see ya on the flip side, hey?

To: meandog
The 30mm round has a muzzle velocity of ~3500 fps. The rounds were coming in faster than the speed of sound (~3X) so they got there before the sound of the cannon going off. Not even Rover could hear them coming in; though he did have the good sense to be someplace else once they did get there!

I thought it was a cat because of the way it moved when the first rounds hit. I never saw a dog move like that! Then again, I've never been out walking the dog when a whole bunch of high-explosive rounds come in 50 feet away.

Good shootin.
Interesting to me was that the bullets appeared to come in from the upper left while the crosshairs were trained straight away.
Probably some “persistence of vision” thing but it had the appearance that the gun was being remotely target.
To: bert; meandog
It looked like he put something on the ground when he ducked.

Exact same impression for me. Only by looking at the impact explosions could you tell the bullets were basically heading directly away from the camera.
