Hajji, of Hackney, east London, had concealed a 6,000-pound engagement ring inside a helium balloon. The idea was that she would pop the balloon as he popped the question.
But as he left the shop, a gust of wind pulled the balloon from his hand and he watched the ring -- and quite possibly the affections of his girlfriend -- sailing away over the rooftops.

I know a guy who proposed to his girlfriend on a boat
on Lake Powell.
Dropped the diamond ring, which bounced off the deck,
and went straight to the bottom.
He’d bought it with AMEX, however, and they made good
on it under some coverage which they may or may not
still offer.
________
He did end up marrying someone else, however ...

The only thing dumber than losing the ring was picking the girl.

If the dude would have watched this movie as a kid (while in 1st to 4th grades, I/we watched it at least a couple times/year when we couldn't go outside for recess due to cold or rain)... he would have known to ALWAYS carry a sling-shot to take out balloons.

I didn't like the book when I read it. The balloon in the book wasn't a real red but more orange. I got a good grade on the report.

When we had rain, it was “The Red Balloon” an expurgated version of “Willy Wonka”, and “Creature from the Black Lagoon.”

I call bullsh*t.
Any balloon which is holding 12,000 lb. will NOT be carried off by a gust of wind.
...oh, British *currency* never mind...
Cheers!
