To our neighbors, my wife, Nancy, and I don’t appear in the least unusual. To those in the quiet Oregon community where we live, we are viewed just as we are -- a happy couple deeply in love. Our desire to work hard, buy our first home, and start a family was nothing out of the ordinary. That is, until we decided that I would carry our child.
I am transgender, legally male, and legally married to Nancy. Unlike those in same-sex marriages, domestic partnerships, or civil unions, Nancy and I are afforded the more than 1,100 federal rights of marriage. Sterilization is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights. Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire.

Well, technically speaking...you are correct. This is basically an insane woman that had her breasts removed, took testosterone shots and still got pregnant. She is a one woman freak show. And the fact that she did it voluntarily means she is quite literally insane.
I see why the word “man” is in quotes. This person is simply a woman that has had surgery and taken drugs to make her look like a man.
Although she doesn’t look like a man now. She just looks “butch” and pregnant.

20 or 30 years down the line we are going to see there are problems with all these abnormally-conceived humans. Now that there are enough children around produced by in vitro fertilization, they are doing studies. One found that IVF children have twice the number of medical problems as naturally conceived children. With any of these unnatural methods, I bet in a few generations we will see more and more genetic defects, mutations, hormonal problems, etc (not to mention the psychological ones!).
Both genders could want a child, but the woman bears it.

The hormones can cause some horrid birth defects, plus testosterone is a controlled substance, so the doctor and this “woman” or whatever she is now both committed a felony.
How can she be legally a male if she hasn't had ALL of the surgery required to make her a 'male'? Seems that all of it must be done in order for her to qualify.
How can you have 'sex reassignment' without the surgery being done? That needs to change.
I guess her 'legally male' designation should now be legally challenged. And the law needs to be rewritten to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Or else this is nothing but a freak show that doctors are putting on. Shouldn't there be any ethics involved?
I think some social agency needs to step in, and take the child from her, when/if it is born. How can you subject a child to that?

I’m STILL confused. Who is the father of the child? The biological father? This is a woman with some male accoutrements, married to a woman, who conceived...how? IVF? There had to be a “sperm donor” somewhere along the line, who is it?
How fascinating. How sf is this? And it makes me very uncomfortable, but in a way that indicates I have a bit of dogma to hunt down and kill.

This kind of item is useful as educational I suppose, but it really ought to be considered passe. Pity the planet is still so backward. Now, formal legal recognition of full, basic human rights for this person - and child - now that IS worth posting. More I think about it, sex really ought to be dropped from all legal constructions. We are ALL human. We all have the SAME rights. Matters of DNA and social roles are secondary to our intrinsic value.
