To our neighbors, my wife, Nancy, and I dont appear in the least unusual. To those in the quiet Oregon community where we live, we are viewed just as we are -- a happy couple deeply in love. Our desire to work hard, buy our first home, and start a family was nothing out of the ordinary. That is, until we decided that I would carry our child.
I am transgender, legally male, and legally married to Nancy. Unlike those in same-sex marriages, domestic partnerships, or civil unions, Nancy and I are afforded the more than 1,100 federal rights of marriage. Sterilization is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights. Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire.

“We are ALL human.”
Not for long at this rate.
Boy howdy, Bend - I have a college friend who has a ranch out that way. He’s gonna git a little email in the morning...heh heh...
You have a good point.
What are those men meds that have warnings for pregnant woman not to even touch.
I think one is a hair replacement and the other is a prostrate med.
Perhaps this is the end results coming out of the Nazi Germany era.
The doctors/scientist did a lot of experiments in those dark back rooms.
And it wasn’t curing dwarfism as some of their subjects were afflicted with.
I think you got it, Nazi horrors live on 60 years later.
Bend, Oregon. That doesn’t surprise me, I’m just relieved it’s not Ashland, that’s where we Southern Oregonians store our loonies.
I always wonder about the partner in all this. Who would willingly marry someone this bizarre?
Oh, and what birth canal is this baby going to exit through? Has this “thing” thought this whole action through?
I think we have a winner!
“Legally male”? I don’t recall MEN voting on expanding our ranks to NON-MEN.
?
Measurably creepy.
I don’t remember voting on that either.
Could I have some cosmetic surgery done and become “Legally Black”? Or better yet, “Legally, a Fire Engine”? and if you deny my right to be a Fire Engine, you are worse than Hitler.
And how did she/he get pregnant with a female wife? I always thought it took a male and a female to make a baby. I must have missed something somewhere in one of my biology classes.
The Old Testament has a word for things like this. It’s a word we don’t like to use much anymore, because it’s not politically correct; it’s considered judgmental. But the word is handy when things like this happen. The word is “abomination.”
I have come to the conclusion that there is LITERALY no bounds as to what is an acceptable lifestyle for these people. Democrats applaud these freaks. Is there a point where they would say “no, thats wrong”? I don’t think there is.
Bottom line is, whatever this freak is, it is genetically female. Surgical butchering does not change that.
And the other one, the “wife”? What is it? Is is genetically male?
So, what you have is a pair of freaks that want to be the other gender? So they are still able to “cross breed”?
She is not a man; just surgically deformed woman.
That was my first thought, too. Obviously the mother/father isn't concerned, which tells me this preganancy is more about her/him, and making some sort of political statement, than about the baby, who should be a product of love.
Yeah, the comments at BoingBoing were almost as bizarre as the story itself.
This is a story from the Twilight Zone, an attack on logic and reality, of saying black is white and white is black.
Will someone explain how this is humanly possible?
The only species on the earth where the male gives birth are seahorses.
A man does not have the genetic makeup for holding a placenta, hip sizes and exit for baby.
IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN AMONG HUMAN MALES.
How is this possible?
This has to be a joke.
perfect word. it’s impossible to improve on what God says about something

More like "Arnold-Ville."
That is not a man, just an ugly woman with no boobs, a butch haircut and armpit hair.
I'm going with you!
Do you think that the people on the shuttle Endeavour and the ISS want to come back to all this insanity?
Eh, my brother can do that too after a full meal. ;)
This is very confusing. I wonder if he has a penis. If so, it is necessarily going to be a C-section birth, correct? This is the definition of mind-bending.
And how was the sperm delivered to her/him?
***************
Yes. The poor child.
The word is abomination.
Exactly, and notice the similarity to the word ‘Obamanation.’ Same meaning, slightly different spelling.
I didn't click on the link, I am at work.... what got it pregnant?
Where are we going and why are we in this basket?!
This article does not seem to explain the technicalities. I’m still confused...
This is a pregnant woman, whose exterior form resembles a man due to surgery and hormone treatments, and is ‘legally’ male although genetically female. It’s “wife” Nancy is a woman.
So where/who is the father? The sperm came from somewhere? And how was the baby “conceived”?
When this couple gets divorced in a few years, will the sperm donor (the real father, and the only actual male in this triangle) be sued for child support?
Callahan, if you have a chance, please see post #86. Are you able to answer for us?
Maybe I did not read the article well enough or it’s just too mind-boggling, or the info is not given...?
In total, nine different doctors have been involved. This is why it took over one year to get access to a cryogenic sperm bank to purchase anonymous donor vials, and why Nancy and I eventually resorted to home insemination.
When I finally got pregnant for the first time, I ended up having an ectopic pregnancy with triplets. It was a life-threatening event that required surgical intervention, resulting in the loss of all embryos and my right fallopian tube. When my brother found out about my loss, he said, Its a good thing that happened. Who knows what kind of monster it would have been.
On successfully getting pregnant a second time, we are proud to announce that this pregnancy is free of complications and our baby girl has a clean bill of health. We are happily awaiting her birth, with an estimated due date of July 3, 2008.
This is a woman with some reconstructive surgery to make her look like a man.
This is very confusing. I wonder if he has a penis. If so, it is necessarily going to be a C-section birth, correct? This is the definition of mind-bending.
No, she is a woman from the naval down. She just had her chest reconstructed.
Stop calling her “him”
She is a “she”.
Poor little baby. How sad to be born into such a life.

That is absolutely scary. So they used they ol' turkey baster method... at home?!
My head hurts. That poor child . . .
A dad named Sue.
You know those other ‘Mr. Mom’ guys? Pikers!
I think we have had a break down of communication. I posted to Callahan that I thought he had hit the nail on the head with his post #37. You posted to me something about ‘legally black’. I replied with a question mark because I couldn’t figure out what you meant from my comment to Callahan. Now this other post about fire trucks and Hitler. I think you meant your first communication for someone else, maybe?
She's just a lesbian who wanted marriage rights so bad (why? jeez) that she went "transgendered".
Me too, I’m confused. First this HE, was a SHE,...why didn’t SHE THEN have a baby. Planned Parenthood WHERE are you. I don’t know I’ve every thought of abortion as an alternative, but this child will SUFFER....SOOOOOOOOO...
This was a donor sperm conception. There doesn’t seem to be any indication the donor knows his swimmers ended up getting a “man” pregnant!
Bumping to the top, because I think this mutilated chick is on Oprah today.
She used a syringe with sperm purchased from a bank.
I kid you not... (no pun intended)
I wonder why “Nancy” didn’t be the one to get pregnant? Of course that wouldn’t be as “sensational” I guess?
