Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:
Shell...........................205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco.........144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil...............130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway...117,740,000 barrels
Amoco..........................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo Gas comes from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans.

Do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! (Oil is now $100-$110 a barrel)

Here are some large companies that DO NOT import Middle Eastern oil:
Sunoco................0 barrels
Conoco................0 barrels
Sinclair.................0 barrels
BP/Phillips...........0 barrels
Hess....................0 barrels
ARC0...................0 barrels

Also: Pilot, Flying J, Love's, RaceTrac, Valero.

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

It does not matter whether you buy your gas from companies that import from the Middle East.

Oil is a *commodity* and if the US buys more from non Middle Eastern sources, then others will have to buy more from the Middle East since the remaining available supply from non Middle East sources will be less. In the worst case, oil suppliers from various regions will sell to each other if there is an imbalance, or rely on brokers to transfer ownership of the oil.

Petroleum is a fungible commodity.

It doesn't really matter who you buy it from... your purchase affects the market price, period.

What you are recommending is like saying make sure you dip your bucket in a certain part of the ocean because we want to affect the level in a certain place.

I hate to bust everyone’s bubble but you don't know where the gas came from that you buy. It all comes in on the same gas line to your area and if you pay attention the same trucks delivers to all of the stations.

That makes some sense NMR. I really wish I could use the other gasolines but the problem I have is that both of my cars do not run good at all unless I put Chevron or Shell/Texaco gas in them. My van sputters and runs rough when I fill up at other stations and my Honda goes through oil like water through a sieve if I use other stations to full up. Now, my daughters older Honda will run the same on any gas she puts in.

I did not believe it myself until I switched back and forth and what it just further proved my experience.

Down here in San Diego I have never heard of any of the companies that do not import EXCEPT Arco! Never driven past any of the others.

Mobil and Exon are the ones on every other block!

I use our local Marathon dealer, but I also support our local small bussiness in my town! There is only 1 gas station in our town, so I go there. I try to keep my money in local stores & support my local ecnomy!

I realize that you are not necessarily capable of mentioning every single brand of gas station, but up here in Western PA, Kwik Fill (mostly a regional producer I think) states proudly on it’s pumps that it produces 100% North American Crude Oil. :-)

That's not the half of it. I worked for a Texaco jobber back in the 80's. Flying-J and Burns Brothers (and other large "truck stops" now known as "travel centers") buy non-branded fuel at whoever is cheapest at the time.

IOW, Flying-J pulled loads out of Tosco, ARCO, Texaco, Chevron - whoever.

At the same time the Texaco Portland loading terminal would regularly run out of unleaded or diesel and would get a "push" down the pipeline from ARCO or Tosco or Shell or wherever. Sometimes it'd come from a barge with no brand name at all.

General public are dupes and enjoy being stupid, IMO.

We have refineries in our area and you are correct. EVERY truck with a different brand name on it runs through the refinery and fills its tanks. Hubby used to know the manager over there. He said the only difference is the computer controlled additives that are added according to company name, Texaco, Shell, etc.

If you actually know someone who works in local/regional distribution, ask them what REALLY goes on.

This stuff is a pack of lies.

Multiple brands are delivered from the same terminals in the same tankers. The only difference (in some cases) is that the drivers pour different additives for the branded stuff.

Hell, the distributor my wife works for owns one branded and one un-branded station literally across the corner from each other. Same tanker delivers to both.

#2 the downstreamers don’t buy crude from ANYWHERE, they buy refined products from midstreamers - who can mix crudes from multiple sources in any given depot

I read somewhere that a gas station up north, I think in Missouri, switched from Citgo to Marathon because he lost too much business for supporting Chavez, so it must work at some level...that is if we’re willing to stop into these gas stations and let them know we won’t be filling up with them because of where they get their gas/oil. Now if we can get the gas station owner in Missouri “enlightened about Marathon that should help there also.
