Is this true? Boston Tea Party Myth (vanity)

Posted on 04/10/2008 2:49:34 PM PDT by Read2Know

A caller to Rush Limbaugh said his daughter brought home an assignment that described the Boston Tea Party.
In it, the throwing of the tea overboard was changed to "some of the tea accidentally fell overboard"

Can this be right? Anyone else's kid being fed this watered down version of historical facts?

What has the education system come to if this is true?

I heard the call and my jaw hit the floor. I’ve been googling around trying to find anyone who believes this and haven’t found any source yet..

I can believe it. My daughter was told (tenth grade) that JFK ended the Cold War, with the blockade.

Oh jeeze.. I just checked wikipedia and they've twisted the story (unsourced of course) to twist it from being about taxes to being about lobbyists and 'evil big business'.

American colonists, particularly the wealthy smugglers, resented this favored treatment[citation needed] of a major company, which employed lobbyists and wielded great influence in Parliament. Protests resulted in both Philadelphia and New York, but it was those in Boston that made their mark in history...

The edit is locked, can anyone fix this in wikipedia?

So now we change the name to The Boston Tea Accident.

"So now we change the name to The Boston Tea Accident."

It was the most severe ecological damage the founders could create. The technology to create oil spills was still about 100 years away at the time.

It was the addition of tea to Boston Harbor which began the warming of the oceans which we know recognize as Global Warming.

Well, 45 tons of tea into Boston Harbor probably gave the fish a buzz and they played cards all night.

How do you think Paul Revere was able to ride all night without dozing off?

"My daughter was told (tenth grade) that JFK ended the Cold War"

I was told in 6th grade (1966) that FDR ended the Depression. The twisting of history by the left never ends!!

I believe the one in New York came first. Massachusetts and New York were not friendly at the time...and Massachusetts “stole” the event historically....pure politics.

Sigh.

On a serious note, to all: if you want a FANTASTIC book to read, get Charlie Wilson's War. Forget the movie--it's ok, but it doesn't begin to do justice to the incredible feat Wilson pulled off, getting the Saudis to match all US funding of weapons designed by the ISRAELIS, supplied by the CHINESE, and delivered by the Pakistanis!!!

What has the education system come to if this is true?

I swear on a stack of bibles this tale is true!!! About 4 years ago my wife and I took the train from near Baltimore into Washington DC. I went to the information desk and asked the gentleman how I could find my way to Ford's Theater. He gave me this blank stare and finally said, "Ford's Theater? I'm not familiar with that one."

So I said, "Ford's Theater, it's the place where Lincoln was shot."

The guy at the desk said, "Someone was shot?"

I said, "Never mind, I'll find it another way."

I swear, swear, swear, that's true and to the letter. My wife and I walked away KNOWING this guy was the product of DC public education. We found the way on our own and were pleased that we did.

If ANYONE has a story about the MOST nitwit teacer extant, it says right here, I'll believe it.

For one thing, we already know it wasn't tea at all. It was Nestle's chocolate.

When my high school was on our senior trip to Cedar Point, one kid (who, for the record, had just moved into the district) saw Lake Erie, obviously for the first time in his life. The following conversation ensued:

“Look at the ocean!
“What ocean?”
“That one, out the window!”
“Hey, man, we’re in OHIO right now!”
“So which ocean would that make it, then?”

I am still lost at where he missed out on the fact that Ohio is in the middle of the country (very close to us), and the oceans are on either side...

My favorite:

A guy was buying some items and the cashier rang up his order. She said, “That will be 10.66.”

The guy replied, “Oh, the Battle of Hastings.”

She gave him a blank look. So he explained that there was a battle in the year 1066 called the Battle of Hastings.

She didn’t say anything for a while and then said, “Can you do that with any number?”
