Juno star Page to play Jane Eyre

Ellen Page received an Oscar
nomination for her role in Juno

Juno star Ellen Page has signed up to play Jane Eyre in a new adaptation of the Charlotte Bronte novel.

The role would mark the first period piece for Page, who has agreed to be in several contemporary films since her Oscar-nominated performance in Juno.

BBC Films has said it will be developing the production, although a director has yet to be named.

The 1847 novel tells the epic love story of a governess and her master, Edward Rochester.

It is among the most filmed English novels of all-time, with more than a dozen productions reaching the big and small screens, including BBC-produced mini-series in 1973 and 2006.

The last film adaptation was in 1996 and was directed by Franco Zeffirelli, which starred Charlotte Gainsbourg as the adult Jane.

Over the years, actresses ranging from Joan Fontaine to Susannah York also have played the title character.

Re this article being posted on FR, why does the phrase, “waste of bandwith” come to mind.

Why, I do not know. I'm still pissed at having to read that in high school.

Juno was discussed on this board quite a bit due to its dealing with a teenage pregnancy where the abortion agenda wasn’t pushed. It is salient information to follow the career of this young woman, at least for awhile.

That would kick such major butt, I would not be able to contain myself!

He is amazing eventhough he is a lib! And she will make a great Jane, but she'll always be Kitty Pryde to me.

Juno was the worst piece of crap I've ever seen. No one talks like they "talked" in that movie. It was like watching a film graduate student thesis on how to make a "rad" indie film; or a parody of one.

By 20 minutes into he film I was ready to shoot the TV. I suffered through the entire thing just to say I saw it.

“The funny thing is that Master Edward secretly wants me. Jocks like him always want freaky girls. Girls with horn-rimmed glasses and vegan footwear and Goth makeup. Girls who play the cello and wear Converse All-Stars and want to be children’s librarians when they grow up. Oh yeah, jocks eat that s*** up. They just won’t admit it, because they’re supposed to be into perfect cheerleaders like Leah. Who, incidentally, is into teachers.”

You don't need to explain yourself.

_____

LOL. Apparently you thought it important enough to not only read but also to comment on, so I have no idea why that phrase would enter your mind.

She also played a lead character in Hard Candy...

Brief synopsis - she played a 14-year-old girl who is seduced by a 32-year-old male photographer. Then she turns the tables on him. Obviously not a family film. Some twists in the film.

All my wife and I could say at the end was "they talked a lot", but it really wasn't a bad movie where I felt like it was an hour and a half I wanted back.

I saw that too, good movie. She’s a smart, good, young actress.
In `Hard Candy’ she was using the internet to hunt down pedophiles.

I only saw the trailer, and that was enough to make me skip it. If I wanted to watch “Gilmore Girls”-style fake snappy/hip dialogue, quips, and putdowns, I can just turn on the television.

Don't be so sure.
