Minnesota may call itself The State of Hockey, but right now Pennsylvania is challenging that title.
While the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins open the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday in Pittsburgh, the franchises American Hockey League affiliates, the Philadelphia Phantoms and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, are battling in the East Division final of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Its not the first time Philadelphia and Pittsburgh squads have met in the crucible of the playoffs. In fact, some of the same players who take to the ice Friday night in Pittsburgh (7:30 p.m. ET, VERSUS, CBC, RDS) skated in the last Keystone State Collision.

‘Burgh ping!
BS. We are still and will always be the State of Hockey. The NHL barely qualifies as hockey anymore anyways.
LOL! Well you always have the North Stars!
Oh, yeah. They moved away! And Detroit is kicking their butts!
Well, you still have the Wild!
LOL!
WHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
I’ve been to Minneapolis. It was awesome!

Watch Conference Finals Outdoors - Pittsburgh Penguins
Starting with the first-round series against Ottawa, the Penguins set up a 12X16 LED screen in front of the Gate 3 entrance at Mellon Arena. As many as 3,500 fans gathered to watch broadcasts of the games during the second round.
Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final series against the Philadelphia Flyers will be played Friday at Mellon Arena at 7:30 p.m. Game 2 will be played Sunday at Mellon Arena 7:30 p.m.. Both games will be televised nationally by Versus.
The outdoor screen has become a phenomenon in itself, said Penguins president David Morehouse, Our fans always have been very loyal to us and were happy to give back to them in this way. We know that our fans who dont have tickets are enjoying getting together to watch the home games on the big screen outside the arena, and were also getting large crowds for the broadcasts of road games.
For safety reasons, the team asks fans not to bring grills or tents to the Gate 3 area. Also, alcohol is prohibited.
I remember when the North Stars moved. I was sad at first, but I got over it. Besides, we still have the Gophers, and college hockey is far more fun to watch than professional. I actually still like to watch high school hockey; every year I get together with a couple buddies I played with back in Edina and we go to a home game. The most fun, though, is just playing on the lake with friends or family.
:)PaMom
Glad your enjoyed your stay. What brought you here?
Also, if you have a hockey ping list, I’d love to be added.
I was in Minneapolis in June-July of 2005 to participate in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games.
It was interesting how every building is connected by enclosed walkways.
I guess that's because of all the snow!
It’s called the skyway. :)

GO FLYERS!!!!!!!!!!
It’s tough pushing in a wheelchair. The ‘grain’ of the carpet is weird. It pushes sideways at places.
Even Flyer fans agree...
Philly fans are the worst!
Hey mom!
There are still hockey fans here!
We’re just busier than most people. Always on the go!
Michigan doesn’t have much but Detroit IS Hockeytown!
They certainly showed Dallas tonight!
Hope they keep it going...I have tickets for game 2 Saturday!
Are you in a wheelchair? I’m sorry to hear that you had difficulties...I wouldn’t have even thought of that! Most people wear heavy boots in the winter, not to mention all the salt dragged in, which is probably why they don’t want to spent too much on quality carpet or some other surface. I always thought the Twin Cities had a good reputation for being handicap accessible. You should come back in the summer some time.
This weekend the Atlanta Braves are playing at the Pittsburgh Pirates and as the schedule would have it they go to Philadelphia. So the Braves will be right there for all the NHL action in the eastern conference. The Braves announcers were joking about just what the heck they were gonna do on a sunday night in Pittsburgh. Skip Carey was suggesting room service and a NBA game on the tv.
The game on Sunday is in Pittsburgh.
But I’d still advise anyone to stay indoors at night on a weekend in Philly.
It’s not all that safe in the “City of Brotherly Love”.
Especially if you’re not a Philadelphia fan.
I’d caution everyone - wear the jersey of another city at your own peril!
yes it is. however, the wings still have to prove to me that they deserve my fandom again after letting me down the last 3 years.

The Penguins have convinced me to root for them, and I'm in Texas.
I was there in the summer. I ended up taking the streets and met so many wonderful people that I stopped taking the Skyway. And I’d love to come back. The Wheelchair Games are in Omaha this year. I got a sponsor, the Keystone Paralyzed Veterans of America, so after 3 years off, I’m going back to ‘The Games’!

I’ll call it the “Turnpike Series”.
(Philly and Pittsburgh are at opposite ends of the PA Turnpike)
Seriesly!
Being from West Pa, we still watch pa sports, on center ice & super fan, here along the yukon river, even savran most everyday. I’m actually the only one for 200 miles with HD & 67 inch Samsung, so usually have a crowd. The Indians are all related to upriver Indians in canada and they all into hockey, so we have a good time.
I watched every single Pen Game this season and look forward to Flyers spending alot of time in the box, while Hossa, Crosby , & Malkin make em pay. So far in these playoffs, Pens have only had 4-5 undisciplined periods, looking good. Should be a great series and hope that she goes 7 games. Go Pens
It’d nice to see the arrogant and Sanctimonious Canadians shut out for a while in their own game, hehehe.
GO PENS!
Really! That’s what they get for booing our National Anthem!
Jerks!
Nice!
I look forward to seein my Canadian upriver friends show up for a few days; drink, hockey games, and shoot some late migrating caribou. They sure ain't arrogant or sanctimonious either. Youins don't wanna be givin Pittsburghers a bad name now.
Detroit IS Hockeytown!
(worth repeating)

I think he meant the “Montreal Canadians”, the hockey team. And their fans.
Not all Canadians.
I guess I just assumed it was winter because you used the Skyway. Not many people use it in the summer. I personally don’t even use it much in the winter - I like the brisk winter air.
Hot state of hockey as Flyers, Penguins meet in East finals
It’s 2 hours before the puck drops, and I’m wound up like a coiled spring.
I know the feeling. Is there anything better than NHL playoff hockey? If there is....I haven't seen it.
From a "wait until next season" Habs fan, I wish the best of luck to you & your Flyers.
They didn't choke in game seven against Washington, which is the typical Flyer response to adversity. Then they took out Montreal in five games, after not beating them once in the regular season.
The Penguins have had an amazing post season and it should be good.
That's really classy of you. The Canadien fans on the hockey boards were real jerks during the last series.
Can't wait to see who plays the Red Wings for the Cup...
Flyers/Penguins should be a great series.
Read my tagline!
Sorry. That was over the top.
As you can tell, I’m a bit wound up!
But there’s a long history here, and I truly do despise the Flyers! Bobby Clarke, Ron Hextall,... the whole Broad Street Bullies crap!
Just put me down as another rabid hockey fan!
MALKIN SCORES SHORT HANDED!!!!
SWEET !!!
either way, im proud of my orange and black bad @$$'s much better team this year.
Go Flyers!
