McCain on Regis
5-14-2008 | Entrepreneuer

My wife just turned on Regis in the other room. McCain is on, bragging about how he works with Feingold, Kennedy, et. al.

TOPICS:
KEYWORDS: election; mccain; rino
He either thinks conservatives have no choice and won't sit this one out or that he doesn't need them.

The more McCain opens his mouth, the more he alienates the base. Any chance to force a floor fight at the GOP convention?

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say McCain is fighting to lose the election as hard as he can..........

Either way, I don’t think he gives a crap about conservatives. He believes conservatives make up 5% of the population and therefore are politcally insignificant because at least 1/2 of that will vote for him.

I think he harbors ill will against conservatives because of the tremendous outcry to McCain-Kennedy; and he has never gotten over losing in 2000 in South Carolina.

I think the Ron Paul followers are trying to do just that.

I'm thinking a grass roots protest vote is needed to show the GOP that conservatives are still a force to contend with. A write in campaign for some other conservative candidate (Hunter / Thompson / ?) or a write in for Ronald Regan.

Get a couple million people across the US to do that and you will get the GOP’s attention. Get more than 5 million to do that and the GOP will start to listen. Get more than 10 million voters to write in a true conservative and you will drive your point home.

Settle Down.

You are soon going to start hearing Obama talk about ways to have a long term US “presence” in Iraq, too. You’ll hear him say “there will be no tax increases” and maybe even some “tax cuts” for the middle class.

In other words, All Candidates Run To The Center In The General. The competition is for the independents.

GW Bush tried to moderate his right wing imagery with the term “compassionate conservative”. That’s all about winning the middle. This is why it’s important that the far left Obama be nominated. The distance for him to travel to the center is much greater.

The far left will be saying the same thing about “taking us for granted” as the far right will about McCain. There is nothing new under the sun. Only Iraq matters and more or less nothing else — because of oil. Not the 1 year supply in ANWR. The 40 year supply in the Mid East.

Elect Obama and it will all be rather academic. There won’t be many pieces to pick up after Obama’s socialist revolution.

You are so right. We are so screwed so far. For a while I thought he was reaching out to conservatives but now I am back to my original thinking about McCain - liberal leaning.

"Any chance to force a floor fight at the GOP convention?"

It is reported that the Ron Paul's Paulhriods will disrupt the GOP conventions. Of course, these clowns are party interlopers and not Conservatives.

Let’s face it... being a conservative and a Republican is down right unpopular now amongst the general population. Republicans are losing special elections across the deep south and McCain’s campaign sees that.
If Thompson, Guilianis, or any other Republican candidate were the nominee, he would be even further behind than McCain is against the Democratic nominee.

I’ve been behind the write in Ronald Reagan (I picked President Reagan, because I believe most people would agree with him, and what could be more symbolic?) idea since McCain’s coronation.

I’m leaning more towards writing in Pres. Reagan every day McCain speaks. I hear how terrible Obamama is then I think okay, gotta swallow my pride, and vote for McCain; then he speaks.

WoW, what a great way to bring in the younger voters, maybe he can get a spot on “Seeking Solutions With Suzanne”

Perhaps he could....never mind, he doesn’t need our vote.

Not all. In McCain's case, he has nowhere to run.

I don't mean to offend you, but the simple truth is that you cant get anything done in Washington unless you work with the other side. Especially when you are in the minority.

McCain has been in Washington for more than a quarter century. He's been effective because he has figured out how the place works. Of course we wish he hadnt been effective on things like CFR, but the fact remains that his MO has a good success rate.

Taxes, the Supreme Court, abortion, and gun rights for starters.

McCain has a lifetime ACU rating in the 80s. Obama and Hillary have single-digit ratings. McCain wasn't my first choice, but those here who insist that there is little to no difference between him and the RAT candidates are exaggerating beyond all reason.

Working with folks on the other side of the aisle is fine if one is working on lowering taxes, reducing the welfare state, securing the border, etc. But when one is working with the other side to curb free speech (McCain-Feingold) and reward illegal aliens with amnesty (McCain-Kennedy) it's another matter entirely.

He's been nominated by the party (by everyone other than conservatives). The country is swinging very hard toward the Democrats, the November Congressional elections will be a disaster....what else should McCain be doing?

He's got a majority of the Republicans, the hard core conservatives will not vote for him in any case....right now, before he nominates a VP, he's probably doing the right thing.

Yeah--and when conservatives join to criticize him, we won't be told to "settle down."

If conservatives don't try to turn McCain around on his leftist policies, who will?

.... Waiting...

McCain has taken a consistent position against human cloning, Obama has been on both sides of it. McCain supports DOMA, Obama wants to repeal it. McCain believes in sentencing guidelines, Obama is ok with letting criminal sex offenders receive early release. Obama is ok with adult stores in close proximity to schools. Obama is ok with porn not being blocked on school and library computers. Obama singlehandedly blocked a PBA ban. McCain is against all of those things.

Nevermind the meat and potatoes like McCain is against federal health care, Obama is for. McCain will appoint judges like Roberts, Obama like Ginsburg. McCain wants to make the tax cuts permanent, Obama want to roll them back. Nevermind that. Nor the GWOT and Iraq.
