Ed Rollins Overheard Bragging: Huckabee will be McCain VP Pick.
Quinn and Rose morning show ^ | 15 May 2008 | Son of Deep Throat (Quinn's source)

Posted on 05/15/2008 7:26:51 AM PDT by Vigilanteman

Nothing is up on the website yet, but I heard this during the morning drive about two hours ago.

Quinn and Rose are nationally syndicated on satellite radio, but have local coverage in the Pittsburgh region and other Clear Channel Markets.

Quinn has a inside Washington souce who he calls "Son of Deep Throat" who, while unidentified, has seldom if ever been wrong.

According to this source, Ed Rollins was heard bragging at a DC gathering that his man Huckabee would definitely be McCain's VP pick because that was the plan from the beginning. Huckabee was to ensure that anyone whom the Rockerfeller wing could not trust would be shut out of the ticket. The VP slot (and set-up for a future presidential run) would be his reward for doing so.

Quinn remarked that it was a Rockerfeller wing gamble to drive conservatives from leadership positions in the party. If it works, the Rockepubs would have total control. However, if it does not, the Republican Party is finished.

This news, if true, is quite disturbing. It would indicate that the Rockerfeller wing cannot trust Romney, even though his father was certainly more comfortable working with the Rockerfeller/Nixon wing than the Goldwater/Reagan wing.

It would also indicate that they can fully trust Huckabee which does not surprise me given his stance on open borders, global warming and substituting his personal feeling for the rule of law.

I am thinking it will be Huckabee.

McCain probably feels like he needs the populist, “Evangelical” vote.

If Huckabee is the VP candidate then Obama’s “yes we can” needs to be changed to “yes we will”.

I too have been thinking about a write in protest vote. The problem is, how do you make a protest vote count. If everyone just writes in any old name, then there wont be a “collective” to show the strength of the protest.

If all who are dissatisfied with McCain write in the same name, then there will be a much larger number nationally that will be counted. Given enough such votes, esp if McCain does not carry a couple of states by the margin that he hopes to, and the GOP will start to realize that the party that motivates the BASE is the party that wins.

The next problem is, what to write in. Since each of the current candidates each has their own following, and that will likely cause problems with other candidates, I recommend that we write in a candidate that we can all agree with and that will send a very clear message. I’m going to write in Ronald Reagan

Stupid, stupid, STUPID! McCain is truly doing all that he can do to assure that he loses on November 4, and, IMHO, I don’t believe that McCain even knows that he’s seriously shooting himself in the foot if he does choose an economic socialist like Huckabee as his final VP choice. Either Sanford, Pence, or Romney would be better choices for VP.

If true, this shows how the leadership of the GOP has been string conservatives along for a long time. They are willing to risk the future of the party on a gamble for power, all in the midst of an ungoing war, and in the face of two Marxist-Leninist Dem candidates.

If Huckabee is the VP pick, get ready to say President Clinton or President Obama on 1/20/09.

The betrayal will then be complete.

My own idea, for what it is worth, is that this rumor is true. Notice the source was Ed Rollins, not McCain. McCain has backstabbed conservatives so many times, I do not put it past him to do the same with Ed Rollins.

Whatever people think about Mitt Romney, nobody can deny that he is a great businessman. Something happened in the two days after Super Tuesday when he made a good but not spectular showing, and the Friday when he suspended his campaign. I do not think he walked away empty handed. While I remain convinced that McCain will not pick Romney (the contrast is just too much for McCain), I also feel that one concession he extracted was not to pick Huckabee either.

Screwing the Rockerfeller/Rollins/Huckabee wing of the party would be a clear way to endear himself to conservatives and still maintain his maverick aura. We shall see.

The next problem is, what to write in.

Don't. If Bob Barr gets the Libertarian nod, vote for him for president and then any other conservatives running for other positions. If everyone voted Libertarian, or any other party we can agree on, it will be enough of a percentage to b!tch-slap the GOP back to reality.

If they STILL don't get the message, then that tells you they're no longer interested in a conservative wing -- and my own feeling is that now they are not.

This week has shown me just how capable McCain is of throwing away what would otherwise be a relatively easy win against Obama. I will not vote for any ticket that includes Huckabee. I’m voting against Obama right now, but with Huckabee and McCain, I fail to see a significant difference on the issues I care most about; therefore, there’s no point. If he picks Huckabee, I’m voting for Ron Paul.
