-- John McCain
Speaking in Columbus Ohio today, May 15th 2008.
He's a good guy. Give him a listen.
Is that you, Jorge? Or Algore?
What unabashed arrogance you have! Do you honestly believe that after 8 years, the majority of the people on FR has not heard what John McCain has to say? We have heard what he has to say and we reject it!
That word is "losers."
Brilliant!
Sorry, can’t pull the lever for Johnny Mac.
He’s a liberal on “enviro” issues, illegals, energy and a poor economic candidate. Yes, he’s good on the WOT but when our souther border is gaping wide open, when we permit foreign terror enabling despots to dictate energy and when we allow idiot greenies to surrender American economic leadership & sovereignty — what’s the point of winning the WOT and losing everything else?
McCain 05/15/2008 Speech - Illegal Immigration Solved
This was from the same speech: "Our southern border is now secure"? Is there more enforcement now that there was a year ago? Yes. Is it anywhere close to being able to say the "southern border is now secure"? No. Anyone who says it is secure is either delusional, lying or both.
< shaking head while watching the Republic disappear into the sunset>
I took time to listen to him.
From his speech today: - this is not a joke. (thanks go to ktime)
“Border state governors have certified and the American people recognize that after tremendous improvements to border security infrastructure and increases in the border patrol, and vigorous prosecution of companies that employ illegal aliens, our southern border is now secure.
Illegal immigrants who broke our laws after they came here have been arrested and deported.
Illegal immigration has been finally brought under control, and the American people accepted the practical necessity to institute a temporary worker program and deal humanely with the millions of immigrants who have been in this country illegally.”

Thrilling guy.
After 10 years on FR, I have learned that a lot of the loudest FReepers rarely read or listen to anything that doesn't already agree with their biases.
He’s a good guy. Give him a listen
I just did, you moron. he said the Borders are secure!!!!!
are you a total idiot???
If McCain wants the Conservative vote, which he recently said he doesn’t need, knows where to find it and what to do to get it.
Otherwise Juan McCain needs to STFU, because I will not vote for him otherwise.
What the title implies is shut up and vote for me not matter what.
Conservative’s that end up giving this idiot their vote are no different than blacks that cast their vote year after year for democrats.
Hell how many here would reward your unrepentent children with expensive gifts?
Well don’t reward mcCain or any of his fellow travelers with your vote that he has not earned.
They are starting to realize that we are needed and soon they will move to the right, if not screw them. Let them experience the results of their behaviour.
Otherwise we just enable them to continue to not listen to us.
But but but...Iraq! McCain won’t cut & run!! I’ve seen it posted several times on FR that, “the only thing that really matters for this election is Iraq.” So all that stuff is trivial, as real American patriots do not care what happens in America, so long as other countries are supported. That’s the ticket...
Maybe us conservatives are just “agents of intolerance”.
Something that I like about conservativism is that it realistically accepts the world as deeply flawed. Purity does not exist in politics and never will. If you aim for ideological purity and mythologize the past, you will always find the present to be unacceptable.
Actions speak louder than words.
are you scorched yet (:
lol!
Great list and I agree, we need to stop rewarding Socialist behaviour within our party.
You may want to put you list up on your about me page so others can access it for posting.
This speech is what he hopes to have achieved by the end of his first term 2013.
I’m not a McCainiac, but can’t we leave the name calling to he DUmmy’s.
Maybe you missed the setup and don’t understand that this is a “vision thing” speech.
He is not arguing that any of this exists as of today.
One of the things I truly admire about John McCain, is his willingness to stand up for what he believes. There is a strength to his character, which is very clear to see.
If you’re on the other side of one of those issues - yes this can be infuriating. But it’s a powerful leadership quality. There’s no other candidate, I would rather have representing America in a dangerous world.
John McCain may be an SOB about some things.
But he’s OUR SOB. :)
The terrorists have no illusion of the most important issue we face.
Too stupid to be funny.
Of couse our bias are what we hold dear and McStupid doesn’t need our votes, so if he decides he does he knows what he needs to do.
OTOH, some of us FReepers have heard such ridiculous blatherings from Juan McCain’s mouth over the years that we have a very healthy scepticism regarding him.
Quite frankly, I do not trust him. Neither should you.
“Good guy” isn’t going to do it for me. We’ve had a good guy in the White House for the past eight years, and the last four have been a disaster.
Sorry, at election time people say anything to get elected. That is the reason we have only their past record and past behavior as a gauge to judge them.
These speeches are written for the candidate. McCain isn’t clever enough to write a glowing speech himself.
For the most part, he is also a typical liberal on guns
“This Mindless, Paralysing Rancor. Must Come to an End.” (homerun)
So. is McCain saying he will stop his mindless, paralysing rancor?
If so we will listen, but as long as he acts in this mindless paralysing manner we have not choice but to reject him.
You pols are getting desperate, which can only mean McCain is starting to realize he needs conservatives.
BTW- the title quote is projection on McCains part about his own behaviour, telling himself outload he goofed in relation to conservatives.
I agree. The war is really the only thing I’m considering with regard to the Presidency. Sure, there’s other issues that matter to me but they’re also as much or more about Congress than anything.
If we lose the war (that is, elect Obama) there won’t be much else to discuss anyway. We won’t have time. The war will be here.
He announced he's going to include Democrats in his administration. We can only hope that'll end as well as GWB's bipartisanship and refusal to clean out the Clintonistas from places like CIA and State.
I'll be physically ill when I pull the lever for him in November.
Sorry, I missed the speech, did he call out the UnAmerican Democrat Party for their behavior for the last 8 years?
Because Republicans do not fit the above description.
“One of the things I truly admire about John McCain, is his willingness to stand up for what he believes. There is a strength to his character, which is very clear to see.”
A principled stand is indeed something to be admired. However, McCain started out as a principled conservative from Arizona and morphed into Democrat light in exchange for favorable media coverage - plus he seems to take great delight in smacking around conservatives by embracing idiocy such as “global warming”.
Hell, even the “global warming” crowd had the good sense to recognize the con job was up when they did the name change thing.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will do that.
Are you invested in Carbon offsets?
check mine
He may be your SOB, but he’s not mine. Our best bet is for him to pick a conservative VP and then drop dead after the inauguration.
“If he knew the current data on global warming, he would have waited before jumping on board. When someone fills him in, he’s going to have a big “Oh Crap” moment. “
I’ll send him a fresh batch of bran muffins to help with the exchange process.

"I am not amused!"
Click my name and see if there's any chance I've heard him before.
Yes you are correct that the context of those statements are in a speech McCain says he hopes to give (but can’t guarantee he can actually do) after his first term.
However, I waould say I have serious doubts that he is going to be working all out to get these things, given his past history. Especially border stuff.
And if he really thinks HE is the guy that can get democrats to work with him, he is either unrealistic or believes he has more power than he actually has.
OR what they ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner today, yesterday, the day before...
..... he is either unrealistic or believes he has more power than he actually has....
Unless he has an ace in the hole.....
I think he has two such cards. Lindsey Grahm and Joe Liberman. I think that the Senate can be run by McCain, Liberman and Grahm. They can gather enough bipartisen votes to pass or grind things to halt. Both have apppeared with him on several occassions. They are there for a reason.
Did you cut some ear holes in your head rind to listen to him this morning?
No, he's YOUR SOB.
You are the very dense one. He was speaking in January 2013..... at the end of his term.
The efforts now underway will be certified by the border state governors and the borders have been secured.
That is the most important point to be made. I could have sworn FR was a place for grass roots conservatism. A place where we squash liberalism and work to show the fallacy of socialist and liberal philosophy. If the founder of this site says we must all support McCain and we must say only nice things about him, even when we know we would be lying, we would leave voluntarily. The McCain believers are just going to have to face reality, some people are not going to vote for him and are not going to be silenced by a bunch of liberal GOP hacks.
