Britney Spears and Mel Gibson are headed to Costa Rica where they will vacation with the singer's father and Gibson's wife, a source told People magazine.
"They're just going away for a few days to relax," the source said.
The group plan to stay at Gibson's Costa Rican home. They will be back early next week.

Hey, Mel Gibson is way better to hang with than say Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton. Yes, he screwed up a couple of years ago, does that erase all his accomplishments? He’s stayed married to his wife all these years and has like 7 kids. Seems to me she needs support from someone who has HELD a Marriage unlike herself OR her parents.
After all, doesn’t Mel know “WHAT WOMEN WANT”?
Maybe Mel and his wife are helping her get her head screwed on straight and her priorities in order.
While Mel is not perfect, he holds the traditional family out as an example and seeks to live a traditional Christian faith.

Yes, Brittany will likely keep out of trouble with the Gibsons, and this demonstrates Mel's belief in shared redemption, and hopefully he can share his faith, hope and experience. It's easy to sit and knock hollywod...I do it all the time, but yes, I acknowledge that celebrity probably brings with it its own set of demons that most of us don't understand. As a recovering alcoholic myself, I wish them all the best. I just hope she's serious about getting herself right, because if she's not, all Mel's help isn't going to do anything for her. IMHO, physicians, recovery specialists, social workers, addiction therapists, etc. can all continue to debate the "nature vs. nurture" causes of alcoholism and addiction, but in my personal experience and observations of others, it has to be recognized as behavior that is merely symptomatic of a greater spiritual void, and until it is recognized as such, one has little hope in dealing with it.

I think you’re right, Gibson owns a old cattle ranch in Guanacaste in the middle of nothingness and scrawny cows. Though I’m sure Gibson can afford a helicopter to ferry them to the coastal resort towns if they wanted..
