Hello Freepers:
I am about to be laid off from work. I had an interview last week but it went to an insider. More job applications are in the works. Hopefully something comes up.
Could you guys say a few prayers for me? Thank you so much!!
Don’t forget your red stapler........
What’s your profession and where do you live?
Ditto to the other comments, where are you from and what is your background? A lot of folks may have connections and be able to help. I know there are many jobs in my company I hear people complaining they have a hard time filling because they can’t find qualified people.
Prayers up for you and for your job search.
St. Anthony and St. Joseph, please help this deserving FReeper to find an even better job than he/she is leaving. Amen.
Ping for later (when the questions about location and skill set are answered)
Will pray. Been there twice. All I can say is Monster is my best friend! Get your resume on it and conduct searches.
My wife is a nurse in So Cal. She just got laid off. Still looking for work. If anyone hears of anything.
It’s tough out there. Maybe Obama is right/sarc
Good luck.
Prayers up!

I pray that you find the best job in the world as a result of being laid off.
Raleigh, NC needs nurses. . .
Rex Hospital - Wake Medical Center and Raleigh Community Hospital are all located here.
Wishing you luck.
Another freeper was in the same boat and pulled through it.
Craigslist is a great place to find job openings.
???? Out here in the Coachella Valley they're offering large hiring bonuses for RNs.
You bet.
May God bless you. Don’t give up!
Check you mail
you=your
OK Freeper...I’m the healthcare recruiter here. Don’t be tellin’ folks who some of our clients are...
Openings in general, for that matter.
Please provide whatever details you can for a public forum - for example the profession involved and your location.
Who is THAT poor tormented soul?
Prayers.
Been there, done that, didn’t like it. It used to be when you were ‘laid off’ there was a chance you could get re-hired. No more.
Good luck with your search. Polish your CV and cover letter and consider getting a job with your state or the feds.
Praying for you, may God in His mercy provide a new job for you.
Prayers on the way, started my new job yesterday and things are going fine.
Freeper prayers work!
Best of luck, Yankee.
I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers. Monster.com is a great site for searching as is careerbuilder.com. You’ll get through this. Save all your jobhunting receipts and expenses such as gas, clothing or supplies you had to buy in order to jobhunt. They are tax-deductible.
Will do uzumaki_naruto.
If you are in the States, you might want to post a little about your situation on your FR state webpage. If you need to know how to access that, just ask. The state pages can be tremendously helpful for this kind of thing.
“Office Space” is a classic for the modern age. Mike Judge did himself proud with that one. Wish I could say the same for some of his other efforts.
The guy looks like he's living in cubicle hell kinda like I was.
Thanks for the good wishes from my fellow Freepers. Well, I am in the environmental sciences. I live in the southwest. I work for the academia and it was quasi-stable for a while. The problem is that we are reliant on gov't funding, and the gov't is broke. I wish I were exposed to the ideas of conservatism, such as self-reliance, in my younger days. I probably would have picked a different path. Relying on the gov't leads to weakness and slavery. Even alot of the so-called private sector jobs rely on gov't contracts.
Having a Pile-High-and-Deeper is a burden getting into the private sector. I think I'll eventually find something but I may have to take a pay cut or totally switch field (which means wasted over a decade of my life). But, one must do what one must to survive.
Keep the faith.
I’m also busy praying for my former boss whose contract wasn’t renewed
this year...even though to all appearances she did very well at her
management job for the last three years.
Some hiring/layoff decisions seem to be capricious.
You one of those, too?
I may be hard to see it right now but getting laid off might be the best thing that happens to you in your lifetime.
Most people I know who have been laid off have gone on to find new opportunities that were more exciting and rewarding than the earlier one. Much more. Keep remembering that.
Six months from now you’ll find out and you’ll come back to tell us how happy you are and how you’re making much more money!
LOL.....yes :)
My last gig just ended and I am looking for my next opportunity.
I’ve been doing that for 10 years now. I hardly ever meet anyone else in my line of work (except at conferences). I get 5-6 calls per year from recruiters so I’m betting you won’t have trouble getting another job.
Thank you all for your good wishes and replies. I tried posting 5-6 h ago, but the post did not appear. I work in the academia in the environmental sciences. I live in the southwest. The problem is that we are dependent on the guvmint on funding. Right now, the gov’t is broke.
If I knew depending on the guvmint leads to weakness and bondage, I would have picked a different path. Even the private sector in our field depends on guvmint funding. I am trying to apply for some guvmint lab (but they are broke too).
In the past, I have had problems applying in the corporate world because of my Pile-High-and-Deep. Thanks guys for the monster.com suggestion. I’ve found several jobs that I can apply to.
I don’t want to put too much personal info here because the academia thinks this is a hate site. This is absolutely nonsense! Freepers are the salt of the Earth and the most honorable people in the entire planet!
Prayer sent.
I really can’t reccomend that movie highly enough. You should go rent it RIGHT NOW.
