A mountain lion attacking a small animal was spotted by students living near Gerhart Hall on the Bethany University campus in Scotts Valley Monday night, the second such sighting in as many days...
Students reported seeing the cougar on both Sunday and Monday nights...
Students are also being advised to avoid jogging or walking alone during the early morning hours or at dusk to avoid coming into contact with a mountain lion.

I suppose it would be a bit over the top to suggest that the students carry heavy handguns or shotguns while the move about campus?
Yea, I guess it would, this being Aaarnold's California.

I never go hiking without a K-Bar and a small 5 shot 357 within easy access albeit concealed. I also arrange my pack so my neck/back of the head is not an easy target.I know cats are out there and don't plan on being a statistic

It does not mention if they also were teachers or assistant professors, too.

The use of pepper spray has been an effective deterrent, according to police.
So would these. But this is Kalifornia we're talking about.

McGuire’s is one in a recent string of mountain lion sightings. Earlier this week, Scotts Valley police put out a warning about two sightings near Bethany University.
Earlier this year, a mountain lion was hit by a car near CT English School and another hit and killed by a car in Capitola near the Shadowbrook Restaurant. The Department of Fish and Game shot and killed a mountain lion near Pinto Lake Park after it killed a Chihuahua this winter.
He said he’s heard it walking on the second story roof of his house and “a wild scream” ...

Our younger son, who lives less than a mile away as a crow flies or cougar stalks, was awakened this past Saturday morning by the horses kept near his home.
It was about 4 in the morning, and no one ever hears anything from the horses until the morning sun hits their area.
Then he and several neighbors heard a shrill noise and the horses went into a full panic.
There is a large flock of wild turkeys in his area, and the kitty kat was probably after a low fat turkey breakfast. Another wild turkey flock near us has been basically hunted out by critters. The flock was well over 2 dozen birds last summer. Now it is down to one very paranoid/skitzy young tom.
