>> Den schiff Horst Wessel ... [the Nazis] named this training ship after him. Its lower hull/engine room was identical to that of a U-Boat. The prewar Nazis were learning a bit more than hoisting the mainsails.

I remember Astoria as being a lovely town. Surprisingly low key and unpretentious considering the fact that Hollywood has paid a visit on more than one occasion.

“U.S. Coast Guard will sponsor free tours of the only square-rigged sailing ship in the U.S. fleet.. “
Wait a second....The U.S.S. Constitution isn’t a square-rigged sailing ship? Isn’t ‘Old Ironsides’ the oldest commissioned ship in the U.S. Navy? I thought she had square sales too!

Man, I wish I could go see her!!! I love the tall ships...To maneuver EAGLE under sail, the crew must handle more than 22,000 square feet of sail
and five miles of rigging. Over 200 lines control the sails and yards, and every crew-member,
cadet and officer candidate, must become intimately familiar with the name, operation,
and function of each line.

Bump.
Seems the powers to be here in Newport are moving forward to having sm. to mid sized cruise ships come into port.
