n his first series role in 40 years, Jon Voight has signed on for the upcoming seventh season of "24."
On the Emmy-winning Fox drama, Voight will play Jack Bauer's (Kiefer Sutherland) uber-nemesis who is pulling the strings behind next season's terrorist threat.
The character will be introduced during "24's" two-hour Season 7 prequel and will be featured heavily in the latter half of the season.

Can he save the show pingage.
Is it really going to happen this time, or are they going to shelve this season too?
The dentist?
John Voight should be good at a role like this.
Remember the movie “Varsity Blues” where he played the menacing high school football coach?
I can definitely picture Voight in the role of a bad guy.
I heard Tony is not really dead. Anyone else heard that?
In the link it says he will be a villain.
Wow, a whole new season of hearing Sutherland yelling a lot, and people using cell phones in a secure environment...can’t wait.
That’s John Voight.
Just finishing up watching Season 4 again...Tony isn’t dead yet!! Long Live Edgar and Tony!
I still hate Michelle.
Chloe shoots and SCORES!!
Still have Season 5 and 6 to go thru again so I can survive until JANUARY 2009!!!
You’ll need to compare bite marks to be sure.
Cool, he’s a conservative bush supporter in real life and a great actor as his day job.
Has he converted to Islam?
I thought Tony was to be the villain in the uncompleted season 7 - thwarted by the writers strike? Guess they shelved that idea?
It better mean they shelved Janine as well!
24 jumped the shark in season 6. I’m not watching 7.
Tony is the 5th Cylon...
So, like...don't.
. . . and of CTU being the most UNsecure location in the world, where Kim, drug addicts, and bad guys just walk in and out at any time!
Thank goodness we can finally get back to having white European-American males as the bad guys! (rolls eyes)
It will probably depend on whether or not there’s a SAG strike. Hopefully everyone can come to an agreement.
And also if Kiefer can stay out of trouble.
He was supposed to have been in the last season. He was going to be a bad guy from the looks of it. Haven’t heard much about the upcoming season except what’s in this thread.
Will he have the LeBaron?
(Seinfeld Ping List. On or off, name names, yada yada).
I have to admit, ‘24’ is definitely stepping it up a notch by hiring Voight.
It makes me more optimistic about the upcoming season.
Unless he turns into a radical Muslin I won’t be watching 24 this year....
A super-spy LeBaron!!!
No, that's Jon Voight.
Reminds of the Sum of All Fears movie, when the terrorists were changed to be Neo-Nazis.
Well it seems tonight Tyrol, Tige, Anders and the other one will be outed tonight. Maybe Deanna might link Tony to being a Cylon too.......
I meant the dentist.
Lemme guess, he's going to play the new Vice President.
The terrorist devises a fiendish plot to take out the Woody Woodpecker float in the Thanksgiving Day parade by dropping a statue out of a high-rise window. He’s a real instigator.
Ummmmm. He has a long history of being anti US and anti military. A good friend of Jane Fonda. Watch the movie ‘Coming Home’ and you will get a glimpse of the real JV.
He's also a bad father who gave no support to his daughter and wanted NOTHING to do with her until SHE could do something for him. He's an opportunist.
She now shuns him. And she wrote a terrific article - published in the WSJ - about all the good our troops are doing in Iraq and how they NEED to stay there.
The daughter: Angelina Jolie.
Watch him play a fictional character and you’ll really know what he’s like?
You’re not really clear on the concept, are you?
Well, that would be...orgininal...
[insert Chloe look here]
I’m gonna give it a try...yeah, 24-6 was a stretch in many, many ways...but I hope Joel and his team realized that from our feedback and their ratings...
Jack must be champing at the bit to kneecap a terrierist!
From thirty years ago? So I guess David Horowitz is still a communist?
Don't be lame. Voight is likely not a Rush Limbaugh conservative, but in recent years he has demonstrated clarity and understands the threat to America that the goofball liberals represent. He also graciously appeared at Hannity's huge benefit for war veterans.
Oh yeah, and he's a terrific actor, too.
Kudos to Jon Voight. He will make '24' better just for his being in it.
OK
Youre not really clear on the concept, are you?”
Did you even read what I wrote?
I used some real world examples. He is an opportunist and, in my opinion, untrustworthy.
She owes her entire career to her father, who sent her to acting school in France, etc. Bad father? I don't think so.
sw
Opinion.
In my opinion he is an opportunist, with a very bad history. Much different than David Horowitz.
I will NEVER forgive Jane Fonda for what she did to our troops, nor worship her friends, of which Jon Voight is one.
the pres is a lez from broadway? will Jack still pack the jack-sack? I’ll guess tony’s deep-undercover.
Yeah... And that was the problem:
Watch the movie Coming Home and you will get a glimpse of the real JV.So we'll see the "real" Jon Voight by watching him play a fictional character?
You think that professional wrestling is real, doncha.
You’ll have to trust me on this...
it will be a good season of 24.

Radar Magazine sent me a link to a very interesting interview with Jon Voight, the Hollywood actor and father of Angelina Jolie. Heres an excerpt:
You recently visited with wounded troops at Walter Reed. What were your impressions?
I was deeply impressed by them. Most I spoke to were young people, around 20 years old. And they were really very eloquent, very positive, very respectful. You have to be proud of the children were turning out from looking at this group of people. For me, I would much rather hear from these guys than the people who are presenting the news on television on a daily basis.
Were you able to gauge the mood among the troopshave they lost a sense of mission?
These guys say, well, its possible to win it. And Ill tell you one thing they said that was very remarkable: the increase in troops that has been recommended by the president, they say anybody whos over there knows the value of backup and we should be behind this. When youre out in that situation in danger, you want to know youve got backup. Only one guy said he wasnt going back to Iraq, and he had been wounded a couple times. But all the other guys wanted to go back. One young woman, a very attractive young woman, had her leg amputated. But she says shes going to find a way to get back into it. She just reupped and she said they would find something for her to do.
Do you think its possible to win the Iraq War?
Heres what I think: this is a real war, extended beyond the borders of Iraq.
As in the more general war on terror?
The war on terror is real. People would have you believe its not real. This is not Vietnam. This particular situation is not the same wherein we can walk away and just leave destruction behind us. No, we cant. Anyone who has paid attention to what [Iranian President] Ahmadinejad is saying, what all the mullahs are saying in this country and in England, and in all of the Arab world, this is serioustheyre calling for the destruction of America and all democracy and thats whats going on. We could lose this war.
He also talks about left-wing bias in the media, his support for the Patriot Act, and his criticism of Bush hatred."
More communication with you will be useless.
Seek professional help.
Yeah... You’re right. I have a reading comprehension problem. I unfortunately read the dumb things that people wrote rather than brilliant, insightful comments they actually intended. I’ll try harder next time. Perhaps you can recommend a movie that will help with my problem.
