I think our Lads were busy killing the Germans for you in North Africa and Italy and in the skies over France at the time, winning lots of medals and taking lots of casualties. Saved you the bother. You’re welcome, mate.

At its peak in July 1942, New Zealand had 154,549 men and women under arms (excluding the Home Guard) and by the war's end a total of 194,000 men and 10,000 women had served in the armed forces at home and overseas. 11,625 were killed.

One the other hand 16,354,000 men & women served in the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII. 671,485 U.S. Soldiers were wounded and 450,670 U.S. soldiers died.

And when people attack us, we box our corner. And we punch way above our weight.

Puffing out your chest with bravado, big boy?

If all NZ's are like you, then I don't like NZ's.

As a matter of fact, if I ever meet one I'm gonna club him like a baby seal........

For a nation that small NZ did a good job. It's the haughty attitude that irks me. But that's common from England and it's ilk. They resent our power and help but refuse to admit with out us they would be speaking Japanese or German or Russian. I told him “see you in the history books” because that's where his island will wind up. But it's just my opinion.

I posted the total numbers instead of percentage of total population to illustrate a point that I should have wrote in that post.

The point is that even in the biggest war of last century that was all they could muster to fight. What I don't know is, did they bring their own weapons or did we supply those, too?

They're a pisser little country that could and would be easily over run if it weren't for the Big Dog USA having their back. Hell, we could take em with a SEAL Team. ;~)

Right, thanks for that.

Using your numbers, then, and populations for 1943 (1,642,000 for New Zealand, and 136,739,353 for the US), we find that 12.4% of New Zealand’s population served in WW-II (or 11.8% if you just include men), compared with 11.9% from the US.

And of that, 5.7% of New Zealand’s servicemen & women were killed (or 5.9% if you just include men), as opposed to 2.7% from the US.

So, NZ had about the same level of service per populace as the US, with over twice the fatality rate by war’s end.

> I posted the total numbers instead of percentage of total population to illustrate a point that I should have wrote in that post.

...that you have difficulty with the hard math stuff? Just guessing.

> They’re a pisser little country

And the USA is an arrogant large country. One that currently has difficulty securing its borders and preventing attack and invasion from foreign hostile forces.

How about getting really, really good at defending yourselves before boasting about how well you defended the rest of us? Just a thought.

> that could and would be easily over run if it weren’t for the Big Dog USA having their back.

...but you don’t. And haven’t since ANZUS collapsed.

As to WW-II, it would have been a fairly simple matter for NZ to have its own battle-hardened troops and pilots to look after itself against the Japanese — except the Allied Central Command wanted them to stay in North Africa and Italy.

(You will recall that NZ had been at war since 1939)

The Japanese would have found out — as America did — that amphibious assaults against well-defended islands are no simple matter. It is a scenario that NZ has prepared for since the mid-1800’s, when there was a prospect of invasion from Russia. There are gun emplacements up-and-down the coast, and tunnels all thru our main cities and offshore islands (particularly in the Auckland region). All of these were live and in good order during WW-II, and still exist today.

As well, NZ has the two largest aircraft carriers permanently anchored in the South Pacific (we call them “North Island” and “South Island”) and they are tough to sink.

I suspect the Japanese would have found NZ difficult to take and impossible to keep. But as matters transpired, the Japanese did not intend to invade Australia or NZ, so the point is moot.

> Hell, we could take em with a SEAL Team. ;~)

You haven’t heard of the NZ SAS I guess. Your SEAL teams have.

How about getting your SEAL teams busy on your illegal alien invasion? The Frito Bandito and his mates are taking you over even as we speak: and they aren’t even armed!

Crikey...

> For a nation that small NZ did a good job.

The United States did well, too.

> It’s the haughty attitude that irks me. But that’s common from England and it’s ilk.

If it’s “haughty” to refuse to bow and scrape to the United States, I guess we’re guilty as charged. No self-respecting Patriot would do such a thing.

In NZ we don’t particularly feel that the US saved our arses from the Japanese in WW-II — perhaps we should. Our battle-hardened troops were deployed in the European theater at the time, and while there was considerable pressure to bring them home to defend our islands, the Allies wanted them to stay put.

I guess that’s what playing on a team is all about, ay: acting for a greater good, rather than playing the game to one’s own self-interest.

And I guess that is also why it gets up our nose to hear Americans boast about how they won WW-II all by themselves. Aside from being members of the British Empire, New Zealand and Australia didn’t really need to go to war in WW-II: our countries were not under direct threat, and it is a long swim to either place for any enemy to get to us.

When we did go to war, our Nation fully committed and our warriors fought well. Nothing for us to feel ashamed of, and nothing for us to feel particularly grateful for: we did our fair share as a Nation, as all good Allies should.

I don’t know if this helps explain or give context to some of the “haughty” attitude that you’ve noted, but it’s my best attempt.

What an arrogant little pisser YOU are! Get good at defending ourselves, indeed.

We have, without a doubt, the best armed forces on the planet. If the United States of America wanted to, it could turn your little island into an uninhabited junk yard before you could say kiwi.

We are, without a doubt, the greatest country on the planet. That is the reason why everybody wants to come here. We have border problems because we share a border with , for all practical purposes, a third world country, unlike a pisser little country in the middle of an ocean.

BTW, I don't know if you're aware of it but we all have our own individual homeland security and if the time comes most of us will be ready to answer the call......just like always. It's called the Second Amendment. Here's mine, shelia:

Crikey! How do you do manage to do all your sums with just ten fingers? Or do you have to take off your sox to split the atom?

> Get good at defending ourselves, indeed.

If the shoe fits...

> We have, without a doubt, the best armed forces on the planet. If the United States of America wanted to, it could turn your little island into an uninhabited junk yard before you could say kiwi.

You’re all talk and no rocks. Left to people like you, “the best armed forces on the planet” will all soon belong to the Mexican army. And you will become just another economic refugee wanting to move somewhere else. Too bad for you we have an anti-nuclear policy here — you might just have to settle for Canada...

...if they’d let you in. Maybe Cuba will take you?

Luckily for your country, most Americans aren’t like you.

> We are, without a doubt, the greatest country on the planet. That is the reason why everybody wants to come here.

Duhhh — you are being INVADED, son. That is why everybody is going there. Pure opportunism. Simple as that. How’s your Spanish?

> We have border problems because we share a border with , for all practical purposes, a third world country,

And are being systematically and irrevocably taken over by that same third world country, without a shot being fired in anger. How pathetic is that! All those guns, and a Second Amendment, and big talkers like you, and they are still kicking your @ss.

And your politicians are doing nothing. And here’s you boasting to me about how mighty you all are.

I’ll believe it when you can successfully seal your borders and kick out uninvited guests. Until then, Shiela, it’s all just talk.

> unlike a pisser little country in the middle of an ocean.

Jealousy will get you nowhere. Sheila.

> BTW, I don’t know if you’re aware of it but we all have our own individual homeland security and if the time comes most of us will be ready to answer the call......

IF the time comes? Mate — I don’t know if you’re aware of it but as I was saying you are being systematically invaded — even as you spout off with your jabbering pie-hole.

So what are you waiting for? the Mexican flag to be hoist over the White House? You’ve got the population of Canada all speaking Mexican and all within your borders illegally, and that number is getting bigger every day. And they don’t seem to be inclined to go home on their own.

Frito Bandito is running amuck, and all his lo-rider mates are hooning around the countryside causing mayhem, wreaking havoc and stealing your IDs and social services (and your big-screen TVs, too), and the best you can do is boast about what you’re going to do “if the time comes”???

> just like always. It’s called the Second Amendment. Here’s mine, shelia:

Toy guns, Sheila? Must be — else you’d use them to defend your country from invasion. I would. So would any Kiwi.

They’re real?? Then shame on you. It’s your fault. And you’re without excuse.

Luckily for your country, most Americans aren’t like you.

Too many are like you; liberal left wingers that enable the border jumpers.

I don’t know if you’re aware of it but as I was saying you are being systematically invaded

If you're actually in NZ, then all you know is what you read or see on the internet and TV.

I worked in south Florida for the last 18 months. I've seen first hand what is going on but I have to work within the law.

Your posts indicate the I/we should commit mass murder to repel these invaders. You also wanted another poster to provide a 'list' of people that she thought should be shot for treason.

If you weren't so entertaining, I'd hit the abuse button.......

Toy guns, Sheila? Must be

Would you like to stand down range and test your theory?

else you’d use them to defend your country from invasion. I would. So would any Kiwi.

More hollow bravado from an ankle biter.

If you're so concerned about our plight why don't you float up here on your hot air, I'll loan you one of my toy guns and you can round up a few border jumpers and show us how to do it, shelia.

> And if that happens, littler pissers like you will be very afraid..............

I can’t see how or why. The Mexicans are going to take away all your guns (they might as well have already, for all the good they’re doing you) and without them you present no threat at all.

And besides, it’s a long, long swim from there to here, thru shark infested waters. The Pacific Ocean is a very large place with lots of room on the bottom for economic refugees.

And, any of you lot that managed to ship-wreck ashore without the right paperwork would get slapped into cuffs and sent on the next slow-boat home to Mexico. By our home guard or by our unarmed police: our armed forces will be too busy fighting your war in Afghanistan or keeping the peace in Guadalcanal.

> Too many are like you; liberal left wingers that enable the border jumpers.

Too many are like you: collaborators that allow their countries to be over-run by uninvited guests. Strangely, that doesn’t happen here. Some try, but they all end up going home in cuffs.

> If you’re actually in NZ, then all you know is what you read or see on the internet and TV.

Now there’s a huge assumption: in fact, we Kiwis do manage to get off our islands from time to time. After all, we invented the aeroplane.

(And we split the atom first, too — something you should appreciate.)

> I worked in south Florida for the last 18 months.

South Florida is bad, so is Texas, so is California (the southern part, anyrate) Can’t say much about the other states as it has been a while since I have seen them. But if these three are any indication, you lot are in a heap of trouble, with no clear end in sight.

> I’ve seen first hand what is going on but I have to work within the law.

You brought up the Second Amendment, not me. And I’m not sure why you did. But I wonder precisely who you expected “The Call” to come from, that you mentioned in your previous post? The gummint, perhaps — but isn’t a part of your Second Amendment rationale to have an armed populace for when your gummint fails or becomes corrupt?

How bad does it have to get?

> Your posts indicate the I/we should commit mass murder to repel these invaders.

No, not at all. Let’s be really clear on this: my posts indicate that your country should get to be really, really good at defending its borders before it allows blowhards like you to boast about how good you are at defending the rest of us.

And my posts also indicate that if you are going to brag about your Second Amendment and your guns, then surely it is a fair call to suggest that invasion from a foreign power would be one of those circumstances where the Second Amendment should be put into use.

Like what is happening now. Nero fiddled while Rome burned.

Otherwise, surely your Second Amendment is only there for decoration, and your guns are only there as noisy and dangerous playthings.

> You also wanted another poster to provide a ‘list’ of people that she thought should be shot for treason.

So what? If she thinks people should be shot for treason, it is a fair call to ask “who” — particularly as I had said that I couldn’t think of anyone who should. Put-up-or-shut-up is a perfectly fair question.

> If you weren’t so entertaining, I’d hit the abuse button.......

Get serious!

Let’s also be really clear on that: I’ve given you as good as I’ve gotten. If you feel abused, you’ve only been receiving in kind.

I’d say “blowhard” is a fair trade for “pisser”. And I guess we’ve now established what “cold” ain’t, ay Shiela.

We are fairly even on that score.

> If you’re so concerned about our plight why don’t you float up here on your hot air, I’ll loan you one of my toy guns and you can round up a few border jumpers and show us how to do it, shelia.

A better idea would be for your (soon to be Liberal) gummint to ask our (soon to be Conservative) gummint to lend you a few of our (unarmed) Immigration Officials. They’d sort the matter out quick-smart.

One thing is certain: somebody had better sort your Illegal Alien problem out quick-smart, or you lot really will see us in the history books. Except not quite in the way you thought.

Now, if all we are going to do is trade insults, I think it best we abandon further discussion: I’m tired, my business plan awaits, and there’s not much more to be gained in this exchange — as handy as it has been as a procrastination excuse.

I can’t see how or why.

That just shows your arrogant ignorance. No United States, no deterrent to world wide despotism.

After all, we invented the aeroplane.

Along with bullshit.

(And we split the atom first, too — something you should appreciate.)

It's all clear now. You're living in a dream world of your own island mentality construct.

Rutherford Mythology

The atom was not first split in 1942. It was first split in the Berlin laboratory of Otto Hahn, in 1938. Hahn and his student Fritz Strassman bombarded uranium with neutrons and studied the results; they detected barium in the debris, something Hahn thought was impossible. How could you get a lighter nucleus from a heavier one?

Enrico Fermi

You're full of it. We're done. You have ZERO credibility.

BTW, if you ever come to the USofA don't forget to ping me so that I can meet you somewhere and open up a can of Rebel Whup Ass on you.

Not being a person that would ever spend any of my wasted hours visiting DU, anybody ever hear of DU shutting down a thread because it had fallen in to ad homonym attacks and wishes for an individuals demise?

Yes, they were working overtime after Reagan's passing in '04. I believe it was because they didn't want to face negative criticism, not out of decency. On FR, tasteless comments are not well received regarding unfunny subjects like cancer and death. However, since I can't know for sure the motives behind all the deleting that day on DU, I will give them the benefit of the doubt for rising a little above that day.
