What are your favorite websites?

Posted on 06/24/2008 8:32:57 PM PDT by GatorGirl

I haven't been sleeping much lately, my husband is somewhere on the other side of the world and I haven't spoken to him or received an email from him all month!

Anyway, I was just doing some surfing and I thought I'd ask my FRiends for some of their favorite web sites (other than FR of course) so that I can get some new surfing ideas.

So what are your favorite web sites that you regularly visit or have found recently?

My top ten can't miss sites are: 1) FR (of course) 2) Weather.com (Don't know why) 3) ebay.com (what's for sale out there?) 4) perezhilton.com (trashy gossip) 5) powerlineblog 6) riehlworldview 7) fox.com (for 24 spoilers, when the show was actually on!) 8) amazon.com (to see what's new in books) 9) verabradley.com (check out the new patterns/styles) 10)dailylit.com (really cool site which emails installments of books for free (or cheaply)

So turn me on to some cool new sites to amuse me during my period of insomnia!!

Thanks! GG

Bono is a good guy. Liberal like any entertainer, but he has a good grasp on Christian doctrine. I'm glad he does what he does. (Though I don't know what his stand on abortion is.)

Might ask, what is your interests? There are forums to participate in for everyones interests.

If he is deployed, you should be hearing from him because now any base/firebase is satellite connected within 3 days.

It's icanhascheezburger.com, and it's just pages and pages of funny cat pictures with silly captions. I love it! It's also linked to a similar page for dogs, as well as politics and office charts based on popular music. All a complete waste of time, and very fun.

Also dlisted.com, like perez hilton, trash talk about celebrities. Lots of "guess whose cellulite this is" sort of junk. Hey, you said insomnia. I wouldn't recommend this for anything less urgent.

Yes, I know where he is and I’m sure he’s having a great time but it’s so weird not to be able to communicate with him at all. He’ll be back to relative civilization soon—hopefully this weekend!

No question FR is numero uno

Other favorites include The Internet Movie Database and recently The Internet Movie Script Database.

Spaceflightnow is another fav, especially the Mission Status Center when a countdown is in progress.

Dictionary.com is a good reference service.

Let's not forget the National Weather Service radar maps. Yes, there are other sites you can use, but since I'm paying for it, I might as well use it! :)

For me, any of the many LolCats sites... But my #1 site would have to be YouTube (after FR). I can spend HOURS there, and wonder where the time went. Old TV show clips, comediennes, music videos, concert videos, original performances. I've found myself on YouTube for more than 6 hours non-stop more than once, and didn't realize how long I had been on. Sort of a "stream of consciousness" sort of thing, where one link will lead to another.

Lots of local weather sites. I found them by going to the local emergency operations web site, and following the links to see what they had.

lol. It's not MY favorites. More like EVERYBODY'S favorites. When I'm bored with the web I take a trip over to Diigo's Hot Bookmarks and find THOUSANDS of peoples bookmarks to some of the most interesting things (and trash (How to cure Erectile Dysfunction) that you'll ever see. Real hodge-podge but I find myself being sucked in hour after hour.

Hope it don't take downloading diigo, prolly not though.

have fun ;)

I like checking out all the conservative columnists and cartoons at jewishworldreview.com.

To chill out, I like to put all my favorite old tunes into searches on youtube.com and watch the live performances. I also look up my favorite dance routines on “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Dancing with the Stars.” If you haven’t seen it, look for the ventriloquist winner on last year’s “America’s Got Talent”.

1. Free Republic, my default homepage. Has been since before I registered in 2/2000. My main newspaper, and window on the world.

2. NOAA Weather for my area. (Disappointing, though. Sheesh. I want some global warming!)

3. Eternity Road,"by Fran Porretto. Awesome political philosphy by a genuine rocket scientist.

4. Sigmund, Carl, and Alfred. Psychology and observations. A wise man.

5. NewsBusters. Love it! Especially the weekly video, New Busted.

6. Michelle Malkin. What a little fireracker. She's awesome.

7. American Thinker. Absolutely excellent site loaded with news and commentary.

9. New Media JournalA good place for finding interesting opinions and observations.

10. Half-Baked Sourdough. My own blog. Drop by and say "Hi!"

Bless you! I know where he is, he just doesn’t have access to communication technology right now. I know he’s fine, it’s just weird not to have any way to talk or write.

I’m spoiled I guess, even during the Gulf War it was more difficult to stay in touch. I just think of my grandparents during WWII when Grandpa was doing bombing missions over North Africa and Grandma had to wait for the mail to come!!! I don’t have it so bad!!

We’ll be back together soon for a brief period until he actually deploys.

Thanks again to you and EVERYONE! I’ll check out the sites.
