East Central Illinois: The shortest corn here seems to be knee high by the fourth of July, the tallest is about nose high. In an average year some of the tassels are visible by now.

Another pleasant day today.

None of this matters. Al Gore has weighed in, and said the debate about global warming is over.

I have to laugh because Al Gore says that global warming is a “moral issue”. And him declaring it a “moral issue” is supposed to prompt us to action. But on other issues, liberals accuse people of imposing morality, such as with abortion and homosexual marriage. So, what are the rules? Can we invoke morality for liberal causes, but not for conservative ideas? Is that where Al is going with this?

I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana from Feb '77 to Feb '79. One year, while watching the Fourth of July fireworks show, I was wearing my Parka because we were experiencing snow flurries and wind. It was cold that day.

At least there is some corn. Much of Wisconsin and Iowa’s corn crop was severely damaged by flooding.

OTOH, 70 degrees on July 4 is far superior to 95 and humid.

I thought the corn was as high as an elephant’s eye by the fourth of July.

As somebody said on another forum the other day:

"That's great....for 1942."

Not this year. May was cold & wet so the farmers could not get their corn planted. That which was planted early didn’t grow because it was too cold.

Unless there is an early frost, it should still do ok. The kids doing the detasseling will be working into August this year & probably have a conflict with band camp.
