It's only July, but if you haven't bought your stove and fuel for the winter, you may be too late.

I live in Atlantic County, NJ. I have a 500 gallon fuel tank. I get heating fuel twice a year. Both times to top off the tank.

My last bill was for 350 gallons, and cost me $1,100.

I do conserve, turning down the heat to 65 during the day, when I am not at home and only turn it up when I get home to 70 until I go to bed, than I turn it down again to 68.

I also have a small electric heater in my living room.

Pine is perfectly suitable for home wood stove use....you must open your fire and really let it go once a day for 30” to get rid of the creosote.....also, mix in a little larch and its all good....

It seems that a cord of wood was $60. for just about ‘forever’ around here ... same wood is now $200. Unless you have the tools, times and a pick-up truck you have to pay the piper.

Everyone/thing adapts.

We're in PA. I'm home with the kids during the day, so generally, we keep the thermostat around 65 round the clock, and use the wood-burning stove. Plus, fleecy blankets on every chair and seating area!

It's going to be darn cold for some this winter. the local news is going to be covering PP&G and PECO's sob stories non-stop -- not to mention the people who are going to freeze.

How can the stoves be sold out, honestly? That’s like three years straight. The stove makers have to know that these things are going to sell. I mean, how stupid are these companies? I don’t buy it.

You could say the same exact thing about snowblower and snowmobile manufacturers. They are so stupid that during an extra-snowy winter they think the extraordinary sales is a real trend and they over-expand with new production capacity. The next year brings an unusually snow-free winter and zero sales. Everyone asks, how stupid were they?

Not so much.

Natural gas and fuel oil have been consistently high for years now. There have been severe shortages of wood funaces for years now. They are stupid for not making more wood furnaces.
