Did anybody see the press conference of the hostages rescued in Colombia this afternoon? One of the men took to the podium and went off on FARC for 5 minutes, labeling them as a terrorist organization that represented themselves as freedom-fighters but that was nothing but a lie.
Very compelling stuff. He said that we shouldn’t forget that this minute there are other hostages that will be forced to wake up early in the morning and march miles through the jungle with heavy backpacks and chains around their necks. Also that they will be abused even more since the rescue was successful. He said that he witnessed FARC guerrillas committing suicide because there was no other way for them to get out of it. His praise for the men and women of the Columbian military was profuse and he told FARC that same military was going to bring them down.
All this made me even more irritated that the Olympic Committee awarded the 2008 olympics to a communist nation. People are carried off into the night never to be heard from again every day by the Chi-com military. Yet, I’ll wager we’ll never hear of that or Tiannamen Square or internet censoring on olympic media coverage. We’ll never hear of the millions murdered by communism even to this day.
I have decided that I won’t be watching the Chi-com olympics at all. Normally I enjoy watching the athletes and competition but not this year.
I hope China loses it’s shirt on the deal as I’m not sure they’ve been able to attract the crowd they’d hoped whatsoever.

It’s an attempt by the olympic committee to apply moral equivalence between western democracy and communism, I believe. It’s a means to legitimize the Chinese without directly pointing out their history of oppression and murder.
It’s such a shame (and now dangerous) that the west didn’t respond to China’s pleas for assistance decades ago.
