Hot-on-the-heels of news that Darren Aronofsky may be directing MGM's Robocop reboot, the studio has announced plans to remake another '80s feature in the shape of Red Dawn.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth will pen the script, which will update the story to modern day.
"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," explains Ellsworth.
"As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

Yeah, I won't hold my breath waiting on that. My own prediction: the "invaders" turn out to be patsies for the *real* evil, the corporate-government cabal lead by either the vice-president or a high-ranking general, who wants to push the U.S. into implementing a fascistic/nazist style of government....
I would bet this will portray the “patriotic kids” being leftist at the start.. The kind who are bullied by football players and cheerleaders. At the surface everything is a veneer although the surface is a clue i.e. if it looks like something a conservative parent thinks is good, it’s evil. If it’s something parents disapprove of, it’s good. The review site Plugged In describes one of Carl Ellsworth’s previous films (Disturbia) that way,
“it wants cloistered young peopleisolated from true community by the pseudo-interaction of text messaging and online video gamesto feel less secure in pristine neighborhoods full of secretive strangers trying to fool everyone with their well-manicured yards. They’re phony people with hidden agendas and empty lives. At least that’s the cynical perspective of LaBeouf’s brooding, restless teen.”
The End
And the title will be altered slightly to, "The Crack of Dawn."

As I recall a bunch of stone age cavemen gave the Soviet Red Army an a$$ whopping. Not to mention some beatings they took in Southern Europe.
Brokeback Dawn?
Someone else already said it, but I can't imagine hollyweird portraying heterosexual white male christian gun loving Americans in a heroes role. There will be the stock wise black man who will be smarter than anyone else, but who probably won't be the main character. I'm still going with gay cowboys as the leading characters with their discovering their sexuality as a main subplot
Yup i was late on it!!! I think your prediction is right on. Is Morgan Freeman available?
I, for one, welcome our new alien demon god overlords.
So how do you explain Robert Reich?
“So how do you explain Robert Reich?”
Faeries?
Most of the Christians I knew at the time did not believe it would be anything dramatic.
Some of us even then and many since view Y2K as a deliberate dry run of The Lord’s engineering to help wake folks up and get them to prepare somewhat for coming traumas.
And, then there are some Christian computer experts who have asserted that if it were not for thousands of hours of corrective efforts . . . on the part of many computer professionals, it could have been a LOT messier.
But, hey, whistling Dixie is a past time of many folks . . .
Even Freepers.
That’s a wholesale incorrect assertion.
Have you read thousands of pages on the topic since 1965?
Please read quotes of the political leaders since 1900 available at post #76 here:

THEN
tell me if you feel the same way.
Why? You mean a couple high school kids with AKs couldnt ambush and defeat the Soviet Army?
Hmmmm...seems the 1980's Soviet Army was 'held up' initially by rag tag groups of Afghanis. Later, through increased 'troops'/arms/training...the Soviet acquiesed the 'field'.
I think Pat has fallen off a cliff somewhere.
Hitler was an eager tool of the globalists even back then.
He was far from misunderstood.
. . . by the real power brokers.
Churchill is an interesting figure vis a vis globalism. Evidently, according to more than a few sources . . . he was not out of the loop.
Well, that explains Barney Frank.
“Have you read thousands of pages on the topic since 1965?”
See, I think that’s your problem. Any fool can write a pretty good conspiracy book, and they play off each other.
Get out more. Live a little.
There are enough real boogeymen in this world without us making ones up.
LOL.
Please be sure to tell them early on whether you prefer to be basted with green chili sauce or red.
It's worse than I thought - they're from New Mexico!
Why don’t we form a production company and I can write the script/story line and you can produce?
We can have Len Wisemann direct so that he can bring wife to the set every morning.
EVIDENTLY I’m behind the times, too. The topic has already been on FR a lot more than I realized:

So is crying "wolf!"
You did know about Roswell, DIDN’T YOU???
How about Dulce?
Los Alamos?
Sandia Labs?
Kirtland AFB?
Holloman and the 2nd meeting with Ike?
Awwwww.
That applies only
IF
there’s
NO wolf!
Only if Glenn Ford can be resurrected to play the lead....
You forgot White Sands Missile Range, the VLA, and the Trinity site.
In this version the bad guys are the lawyers.
Wait, isn't that Revenge of the Nerds?
Who wants to bet that the plot goes like this:
“The villain turns out to be a Cheney-esque ‘white guy’ in the American government that ends up having secretly plotted with the ‘obvious’ bad guys - probably the Chinese - to bring down the American government so that he can take over all the oil fields in the West.”
Now, who do I bill for developing a treatment from this synopsis?
Goldman was right, no one in Hollywood knows anything. Leftist hack idiots all.
I, for one, welcome our alien overlords...
Does not fit, in my case either bad meaning.
It was basically a remake of "Rear Window", but with teenagers.
This thread has taken an odd turn since I last checked in.
Keep in mind that the “Above Top Secret” site is a whackaloon conspiracy clearinghouse that makes Art Bell look like a paragon of normalcy and sanity.
I have 360 degree ‘eyes.’
Have had since 1965.
Well, the title is “Red Dawn” - you know, “Red” - so I don’t see how they can get away from that. See my previous post. They’ll use the “Red” angle, probably the Chinese, but they’ll make sure that it’s really a “conspiracy within a conspiracy” and that the “real” villain is some Cheney-esque “white guy” who wants to dominate the United States oil market or something equally ridiculous. Trust me, this will be a complete left-wing hack job.
“Nor, evidently, have you talked to Marine trainers whove questioned our military personnel about whether they would be willing to shoot their own relatives on command in this country.”
No, but I’ve read about the questionnaire that was supposedly given to the military several years ago on that very question. I also didn’t know about the KGB personnel being trained by our military. I do know about the two ex-KGB generals that were hired by Homeland Security several years ago, one of them being anex-STASI General named Wolfe.
You mean President-select (by the DBM) Obama?
“Dont forget the token black guy as the hero.”
“You mean President-select (by the DBM) Obama?”
Ha, hadn’t even thought of him. Of course, then it would have to be “the token black/white guy as the hero.”
Hey, In my world, Revenge of the Nerds was a documentary.
Easy enough. The red states will invade the blue states...
I thought Red Dawn was a good movie. I was thinking about it for 3 days afterwards. Not many movies do that.
True, “Red” does sort of require a red angle. It occurs to me that Republican states are colored red these days. Maybe they’ll go after that angle.
You beat me to it!
The bad guy is a bad guy. He’s a serial killer. He gets women drunk and kills them. There are very few adults in the movie for any length of time, except for the killer and Shia’s mom. The kids are pretty typical teenagers (but I thought the girl was uber annoying) and the whole movie is generally a typical teen movie. It’s not horrible, but I was glad I didn’t spend $8.50 to see it either. If you have HBO, it’s on this month.
IMO, someone would have to be looking extremely hard at that movie to see it as making a mockery of morality.
That’s good to know. I’m always on the lookout for at least marginal movies to watch. I may rent it for $1.
