This Weeks Sci-Fi Thread (07/13/08)
Fri:
9/8 - Dr Who - SciFi
10/9 - Stargate Alantis - SciFi
This is the Sci-Fi Ping List! Let me know if you want on or off this list!
I’ve seen the 2 part finale of Dr. Who...it’s fantastic. Was this week’s episode the one where he’s on some shuttle visiting a “tourist” spot...if so, that one was boring!!!
This week was a bit boring. There was no "there" there. Probably the weakest of the season.
Yes it was.. The only good part was seeing Rose for a few seconds warning him about something.
The first episode of the two part finale is amazing. The second episode is great, but it can’t live up to the cliffhanger. I lost sleep over that one.
All I can say is that everything that could be thrown into the finale was! It was fun, intriguing and nostalgic. I, personally think this season, overall, has been the best in a loooong time!
And Kevin, as far as Rose, you’ll be seeing more of her!
I saw her. I really like that show.
Fiona is so frakkin' hot.
I want to stay on it. Pretty please.
Thank you for all your work.
Es
Yes Gabrielle Anwar is hot (Rules Somebody). But I think she may be leaving the show, based on dialog in the first show of season 2.
I’ve never liked Dr. Who. And I’m only getting caught up on Stargate Atlantis, season 1, thanks to Netflix. lalalalalala I am not listening!
Tricia Helfer seems to be the inspiration for a character is a geeky comic strip:

I didn’t think it was boring, just different. As a Gallifreyan, The Doctor has always held a deep affinity for humanity. This episode depicted the dark side of some human beings. Judging by the writing of the revived programming, this could be a setup for a future pithy crisis of faith in his adopted compatriots.
It is just the opposite with me. I've been a fan of Doctor Who for over twenty-five years and can't even watch more than ten minutes of Stargate Atlantis.
I’m only on the start of season 4 of Stargate Atlantis, but I watch the sci-fi channel all the time and I’ve seen enough promos to more or less figure out what’s been going on. However, I was SO happily surprised to see Jewel Staite on the show as the one doctor -the first time I saw her, I kept thinking “she sounds like someone from Buffy, I just can’t remember who...” before I finally realised she was in Firefly.
Anyways, that brought up a question: What exactly does the expression “five by five” mean? Shortly after watching a Stargate Atlantis episode where one of the characters said it, I went into my living room, and my roommates were watching an episode of Buffy where one of the characters kept saying it a lot, so that made me really curious.
Thanks!
Is BG all done?
The last episode I watched was over a year ago when Tighe and the Chief and the other 2 realized they may be Cylons.
Just like the Sopranos SciFi made me wait SO LONG that i completely lost interest when the new season finally came on.
Maybe i’ll rent this last season on Netflix when it comes out.
Being trained as a Military Communicator, I'll field that question. In the early days of radio, two factors were determined to cause signals to not be understood, intelligibility and strength. Operators used a simple graph with 5 levels of signal strength (volume) and five levels of signal quality (clarity). The best signal was five by five or sometimes stated as "Loud and Clear." We always shortened it to, "I copy you 'fivers' Mate, how me?"
Yes, the other guy at the other end of the wire or radio shot was always called Mate, a tribute to the old ship to shore commutations.

The HM is for higgmeister!
Any body try “Ghoul” over the weekend on the Sci-Fi channel, I love cheesy sci-fi but this was just aweful ...
I saw it on the guide but didn’t even look.
I’m not going to read much more of this thread since the Doctor Who finale is being discussed but I found this week’s episode anything but boring. Probably the most boring one so far is the one where the Doctor takes Martha to New Earth and it’s all with the cars stuck on the freeway.
Stargate: Atlantis was okay, not as spectacular as the opening when they destroyed the Replicator planet so maybe they will have some budget left over for other shows.
No, the first half of the 4th season started in April, and ended a few weeks ago, after the fleet arrived at Earth. The second half of the season will resume after the Presidential inauguration, and the show finale will be late next April. The Prequel show Caprica will start fall of 2009, I think.
Thanks for the explanation =)
