Changes in Angular Mars
Credit & Copyright: Richard Bosman

,b>Explanation: Does Mars always appear the same? No. As both Earth and Mars orbit the Sun, the apparent angular size of Mars changes as viewed from the Earth. Pictured above from Enschede, Holland, Mars was captured in 2007 and 2008 with 30 separate images, all taken with the same magnification. When Earth and Mars are on opposite sides of the Sun, Mars appears relatively small. Conversely, when Earth and Mars are near each other, Mars looms large and bright. The largest Mars has appeared in recent history was the opposition of August 2003. Since Mars is always more distant from the Sun than the Earth, Mars never shows a crescent phase to Earthlings. Visible also in the above images are the north polar cap of Mars, dark and light soil, clouds, and, in the early images, a global dust storm. The next opposition, when Earth again passes near to Mars, will occur in early 2010.

Appears to wobble. There is a moon movie showing the moon through a month, and the moon wobbles in all directions. All that is due to looking from different angles and distances.

Makes sense. I love looking at/for Mars when she’s near-by. She really is pretty and sparkly. :)

“Earthlings.”

Reminds me of the time our then-three-year old looked me in the eye and said, “Quiet, Earthling!”

LOL! I have NO idea where he got that one from. :)

Do you know the composition of the gases in the Martian atmosphere that support the dust storms?

On the lighter side, any thoughts on whether our bad behavior in producing that evil global warming(alleged)
is having a negative effect on the Martian environment and will ultimately flood the Martian Plains with Bemorat Bullsh*t 80 metres in depth?

Thnk you in advance for your insights:-)

Is there one serious Astronomer or Astrophysicist that actually believes we have instrumentation sensitive enough to determine that the global temperature of the Earth has risen by 7/10ths of 1 degree Fahrenheit or even Centigrade?
Just think how ridiculous that is and then wonder why we dont laugh the Global Warming Idiots off this Wonderful Planet! :-) GGGGEEEEEEEEZZZZ!

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
