As the days roll by, the Brett Favre saga seems to get stranger and stranger. Now the soap opera has shifted to a new level. In the latest twist, the Packers have filed tampering charges with the league office against the Minnesota Vikings for alleged communication with Favre, still technically a member of Green Bay, FOXSports.com has learned. The Vikings were informed late last week that the allegation is that Favre has had inappropriate dialogue with Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, a close Favre friend and former assistant coach with the Packers. Favre has sought his release from Green Bay and several rumors have swirled that Minnesota is his targeted landing place, largely due to his relationship with Bevell. League sources say the Vikings vehemently denied any wrongdoing and are awaiting the league's next step in the process. The Packers, meanwhile, have supplied the league with their version of wrongdoing. Should the league find the Vikings guilty of tampering, they could lose draft picks and/or face fines. The entire affair escalated to an ugly level this week when Favre conducted an interview with FOX News' Greta Van Susteren in which the living legend took the Packers to task for refusing to release him. In fact, a leaked version of the transcript had Favre blasting GM Ted Thompson, but in another odd twist, that portion of the interview has not been shown on the air. Despite the wave of speculation, Vikings head coach Brad Childress insists that Tarvaris Jackson is his guy. The entire affair is unfortunate, as Favre is more synonymous with Green Bay than any other player is with a city. At the same time, however, fans are now forced to make judgments for or against their hometown hero/team.

Did they remove that little protectve seal underneath Favre’s cap? That tampering stuff is not good.
Disclosure: I am a Bears fan.
I live in Wisconsin and everyone I talk to seems to feel the same way as you
All thanks to Favre. He MADE the decision to retire - No one pushed him into it. He sat there at the conference & cried (or maybe he took Bill Clinton lessons, who knows?) In fact, after his retirement, both the coach and general manager flew down to Mississippi to ask Favre again to reconsider. FAVRE DECLINED.
as Favre is more synonymous with Green Bay than any other player is with a city.
More synonymous than Reggie White, Lombardi, and Starr, who all put the team ahead of their inflated, childish ego like Favre is doing? Uh Favre, remember the good-old days when fans cursed your name back in the early 90s and the QB job nearly went to Mark Brunell.
At the same time, however, fans are now forced to make judgments for or against their hometown hero/team.
Not this fan. Aaron Rodgers is the leader now. I don't care if the Packers go 1-15 under Rodgers this year, he is the QB now, not Favre. The Packers should stand their ground and tell Favre that his career as a Packer is OVER, not even as a backup now which I supported earlier but forget it now since Favre is starting to act like a Democrat.
But I have to say that I have been struck by the fact that none of Favre's recent comments suggested that he cared at all what was in the best interst of the Packers football team. It's all I, I. I. He's hard to feel sorry for.
I'm a diehard Green Bay fan
Both McCarthy and Thompson went down to MS to talk to Favre after he made his announcement. The team moved mountains to try and get Favre to stay for another year.
Favre's act is wearing thin. This cutesy game of deciding when to announce his retirement after every season was already wearing down the fans. Then you got stupid fans out there who want the team to "reinstate" Favre and blaming the management for "not keeping him." I honestly hope Favre plays for the Vikings or the Bears. The Packers will be so fired up and I hope they reel off some sacks and interceptions off of Favre.

Da Bears owned Favre last year.
you think the Pack would still retire his number that night :>
Hasn’t Favre retired every year for about the last 5 years?
The Vikings tampered with Favre? What does he suck as bad as Tavaris Jackson now?
“Hasnt Favre retired every year for about the last 5 years?”
The media has kissed his ass for so long, that he has turned into an attention whore. He is addicted to the fawning press wringing their hands over whether this is.... gasp....Brett’s. Last. Year.
Maybe Bob Lee will come out of retirement. LOL!
I agree his act is old and I’m a Bears fan.. I got sick of Michael Jordan retiring the first time (which was an actual suspension due to his gambling), then his comeback and then finally his final retirement from the Bulls. Of course he later joined the Wizards which was a mistake. Brett don’t be like Mike...
Did I mention that the Peoria Chiefs are meeting the Kane County Cougars at Wrigley Field on July 29th? I just did.
He should just show up and collect his 8 Mill salary for holding a clipboard.
Watching Fox News, third part of the Greta interview..he is gonna play next year one way or the other it looks like.
I also live in Wisconsin
Drama Queen is determined to stay in the headlines
Interesting. Debate is currently raging on every Bear forum whether we’d accept him.
Gosh I just want football to get going. We go to training camp for at least a few days every year.
I think Brett was driving and they played that stupid song Be Like Mike and he took it to heart.
While I hate his guts since he beat my Bears like a rented stepchild reguarly he was a great QB. It’s sad that he can’t hang it up.
I do have to say this for him. From everything I hear he’s very conservative. But a huge portion of pro athletes are.
If Aaron Rodgers does well, he won’t play.
I’m a Cowboy fan, we have them in Green Bay in week 3.
Should have known something was up when Favre was on the cover of Madden 09 after his retirement.
the Pack drafted 2 QB’s and now he wants back in-loved the guy but time to move on
Sources: Packers say Vikings tampered with Favre
This would be an entirely more interesting story of it were remotely possible to care.
I think he’s out of GB and very well may land somewhere else, where remains to be seen.
Personally I think that Brett gave up....
I think so too..
None of you get it. Favre is just pretending to not know what’s going on. You have to admit he’s convincing in that role. ;-) But this is just him reaching up from the grave, er, retirement, to trip up those hated Vikes one more time, and league punishment will be swift and sure. I hope.
They went for the fake and Greg Jennings is all alone, streaking down the Metrodome sideline, accompanied by the deafening crowd noise (artificial), the wind at his back (from the same blowers the Twins used to push their home runs out)....
Packer fan in Minnesota (stay retired, Brett!)
I’m surprised they didn’t accuse the Patriots of trying to steal Farve.
“screw 3 of our biggest rivals out of some of their best players”
Hello? You’re giving the Vikings credit for Favre (apparently) not starting for GB? Does it sound like the Packer management is begging him to come back? Did you read the story before posting?
Well, had to try to give you a hard time — there’s a lot of back & forth grief between Packer and Viking fans where I work. Way too many non-closet Packer fans considering it’s Minnesota, I think.
I’m certain Minnesota will say, “Oh, we only wanted to take him to Tampa, you know, Florida. That’s all!”
“You remind me of why I can barely stomach professional sports anymore. I understand that media outlets, ESPN, whatever have budgets, but this Barry Bonds/Tiger Woods/Brett Favre worship needs to stop. It’s turning me off.”
The sports media is probably the biggest turn-off related to professional sports in general. The usual leftist bias aside (yes, they often find a way to even work that into sports coverage), the basic problem, like the new media, is WAY too much media chasing any given story
“this Barry Bonds/Tiger Woods/Brett Favre worship needs to stop.”
This all originated as a Dallas Cowboy’s *Operation Chaos* to throw the NFC North into a tizzy.
PS: I’m a Cowboy’s fan and don’t need to make the font smaller. LOL!
Even people who live in Minnesota deserve a good football team...
That's why we get eight of them to come up every year to play the Vikings.
I am with you. Farve is under contract and he quite frankly is not helping the Pack at all.
Really? Then maybe its just the media and a few fans that are yelling “He’s back, o wonderous joy!”. His indecision is in really poor taste.
I'd love to have Favre.
And Fire Denny Green's Fat Ass! ;-)
...oh, that's right, he went to Arizona.
LOL!
NO cheers, unfortunately.
You do know we haven’t won a division championship since we’ve railroaded him out of town, right?
I'd love to have Favre.
Be careful what you wish for.
Cheers!
