First Photos: Rare albino eagle found in Colorado

A part-albino Golden Eagle has been found in Southern Colorado and 850KOA has obtained exclusive, copyright photos of the bird just before he was transferred to the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo.

The male eagle is thin and is being treated for parasites. The eagle's feathers are in such poor condition that it cannot fly. However, Raptor Center Director Diana Miller believes the rare eagle will recover and will be released in the Hoehne area in about three months.

The eagle was found in the Pinon Canyon area of Southeastern Colorado by Rancher Tony Hass. His wife, Connie, took the photos as they waited for Division of Wildlife District Manager Jeremy Gallegos to capture the eagle and take it to the Raptor Center in Pueblo.

Genetically perhaps it is best they don’t put it out there to breed, albinos typically aren’t a good thing to have in the gene pool.

Could be a pretty bird though with a little meat on it.

I don’t think there is such a scientific term as “part-albino”. That’s much like saying there is such a thing as a smart-democrat”.

I somewhat agree. It is good looking but just like spotting a good looking “hottie” in L.A., you might just go home with a trannie.

A prophecy?

The appearance of an old, sick, white eagle means the old, sick, white guy will win Colorado!

Well, yes. It is either an albino, with a full set of albino genetic material, or it isn’t. Very strange.

A “part-albino” bird is called leucistic. That is, it lacks a lot of feather pigment but may still have pigment in the eyes. This eagle looks leucistic.

A prophecy?

The appearance of an old, sick, white eagle means the old, sick, white guy will win Colorado!

Or does it mean that America is getting old and sick?

Wow! How cool! The Minnesota Zoo has an albino hawk- redtail, I think. It swooped my head during the bird show.

Rare albino eagle found in Colorado

Sounds like the premise of a bad comedy routine.

I hope Chevy Chase or Leslie Nielsen doesn't end up killing the bird.

I like eagles. They taste a lot likd condor, except not as chewy. They are best slow cooked wrapped in bacon, served with a fish sauce made of snail darters.

Let’s kill it and find out why it’s sick and sell the feathers to the White Eagle tribe for ceremonial use.
Oh, as a humanitarian gesture of course.
