Hopefully, they will spend money to get a good script. It takes time for the chemistry of a show (or crew) to come together, and they have to make it work the first time out. With a good script - maybe. Otherwise, this will suck.

I haven't watched any Trek since TNG (ok, I watched the premiere of Enterprise for the Vulcan hottie).
But this intrigues me - I think I will be seeing this movie too. Thanks for the pictures.
To: TheWasteLand
I liked the original series but have not liked any of the spin-offs or movies.
I thought TNG was fair but not really good and the last one about the original Enterprise had hopes then sort of died. A few good episodes on it but a lot of bad ones, and eventually it just got boring.

All I know is it has Karl Urban and Eric Bana which makes it worth seeing.

Star Trek peaked with "The Wrath of Kahn". Everything since then has been a downhill slide.
This franchise is so played out already.

Star Trek IV and VI were good.
First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis were pretty good too.

DS9 was awful. First contact was poor to fair.
Actually the original 1960's series had a few bad ones too but also a few very good ones.
I think the cast was also a big part of the original series success.

I own all seven seasons of DS9 on DVD. Pretty good stuff. Same guy who wrote BSG.
First Contact was great.

The original Trek was the best, but I liked most of TNG. The rest of the spin-offs were dreadful.
As for the movies, I really liked Wrath of Khan, and I enjoyed The Voyage Home as comedy. Beyond that, I thought they were pretty bad.

For a good sci-fi series, the end-all-be-all is still Babylon 5. The BEST television show ever made. Ok, seasons 1-4 and the series finale were the best series ever made...

I'd like to put in a plug for a Trek-fan based website:
http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/
This website is based on the original series, but with NEW actors and actresses reprising the roles of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scott, etc., and the amazing thing about this website is that the episode downloads are FREE, they are not making one red cent off of the productions (don't ask me how they're doing it), that way they evade any copyright issues.
I highly recommend visiting this site, and if you want to watch a truly amazing new/old episode, download 'In Harm's Way', I can virtually guarantee that you won't be disappointed.
As an afterthought, the actor who plays Kirk on these 'New Voyages' (James Cawley) is supposed to have a minor role in the new Trek film. His portrayal of Kirk in 'New Voyages' is phenomenal, and I was just amazed not only at their enthusiasm and professionalism, but the recreation of the original series sets with improvements!
I will give you a hint (as an appetizer of sorts), if you remember the episode 'The Doomsday Machine', William Windom played the role of Commodore Matt Decker, who died trying to destroy the Machine by flying a shuttlecraft down the throat of the beast, in the episode 'In Harm's Way', he reprises his role as Decker in a very poignant and moving performance.
What can I say? I think it's outstanding.

TNG was the best of all of them. Voyager, DS9 and Enterprise all sucked. Most of the movies sucked except maybe First Contact. If JJ Abrams can work his magic in this movie like he does for Lost it might be good enough. There sure is a lot of hype to live up to.

Thiey all look stupid in the extreme, particularly Eric Bana as the Romulan bad guy "Nero." Romulans are essentially Vulcans with emotions. They don't have tattoos.
Has anyone ever read Diane Duane's EXCELLENT five book "Rihannsu" series concerning the Romulans, collectively grouped into a single volume entitled The Bloodwing Voyages?

It has everything you need to know about the Romulans.

The time travel stuff in Enterprise was just goofy. It’s too bad that the series went the direction in which it did, because it did have alot of promise, particularly with the Klingons and Romulans in the very early years of Starfleet.

Interestingly enough, Seven of Nine was actually named after some law that’s relevant to production of a TV series - a copyright law, IIRC.
Anyways, the original series always was my favorite. However, this movie looks pretty promising - Zachary Quinto is a great actor and looks PERFECT as Spock, and the other actors and actresses look reasonably like younger versions of their character. I’m looking forward to it so much I’ve already started a costume to wear to the movie (or, more specificaly, I’ve bought the trim to sew onto this blue shirt I found).
