Am I wrong? Is this a loaded question meant to illicit racial guilt and a “YES” answer?

No, I don’t care for Richmond. Same reason I don’t visit the MLK stuff here in Atlanta. Lousy neighborhood.

“Is it me or does the question pigeon hole you into being a racist if you answer “NO”?”

It’s you. You’re reading way too much into it. And since you’re answering anonymously (if you bother to answer dumb online polls at all), exactly how could anybody pigeonhole you personally?

It’s my local newspaper writing for local readers. Maybe that makes a difference to me. I take it as, since you live in Virginia, and since the memorial is only about an hour away, how dare you not visit the memorial and promote racial harmony. You might think this is being paranoid but I assure you the person who wrote that poll question doesn’t think so. Why couldn’t they have asked the question thus, “While in Richmond, will you visit the new Civil Rights Memorial?” Why? Because there’s no coercion in that question.

Well, if you’re being really suspicious of the intent of the question, a “no” to your version could be seen as an even bigger indicator of prejudice than the newspaper’s question. I mean, after all, if you’re already in Richmond, what earthly reason could you have for not going except prejudice?

My liberal newspaper, the Roanoke Times, once asked online if people had been to see the D-Day Memorial, which is just 30 minutes away. Now i wonder what their ulterior motive was?

Do I detect sarcasm? I hope so.

That D-Day memorial? Wasn’t it a bunch of white men who participated?

If you think the question of whether or not you will visit the Civil Rights Memorial was posed simply to gauge public interest you don’t know the media. They always have a political agenda. Always.
