ADL reiterates its support of evolution education
National Center for Science Education ^ | 7/22/2008

Posted on 07/22/2008 3:33:58 PM PDT by Soliton

In a statement submitted to the platform committees of both the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee, the Anti-Defamation League reiterated its position on creationism and intelligent design:

Creationism, creation science and "intelligent design" theory are all religious theories of creation offered to explain the origins of the universe and are based on varying interpretations of the Bible. ADL has consistently opposed these troubling initiatives -- including so-called "Academic Freedom Acts," which support the teaching and consideration of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution. Advocating the right of students to learn science independently of religious doctrine honors the purpose and the promise of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The platform statement describes ADL's positions on the issues and outlines recommendations on policy direction that the organization hopes the parties will adopt, according to a July 21, 2008, press release.

The Anti-Defamation League was founded in 1913 "to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all." Its recent activities in opposing attacks on evolution education include denouncing two recent creationist films that purport to link evolutionary science with the Holocaust.

Creation science and “intelligent design” theory are all religious theories of creation...

So evolution theory is a religious theory of creation for Atheists?

I know you are a member of the Darwin cheerleading squad -- but you could do better for your 'cause' than citing the ADL's support for darwinism.

(snip)... The Anti-Defamation League ostensibly exists to oppose anti-Semitism. And it does – on occasion – when it isn’t too busy bashing evangelicals, fighting Christianity and creating double standards. Despite its reputation, the ADL is not a Jewish organization. There’s nothing distinctly Jewish (i.e., grounded in Jewish law) about its operations. It’s really just another left-wing group, with a leftist agenda. Politically, it is virtually indistinguishable from the American Civil Liberties Union, People for the American Way, or Americans United for the (so-called) Separation of Church and State)...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

All, on both sides, are **BULLIES**.

Both want to shove their religious worldview down the throats of their neighbor's children!

And...The government can **not** teach both or one or none without trampling someone's religion. No matter what the government chooses to do, it **will** establish the religious worldview of the winner, and crush the religious worldview of the looser!

There is only **ONE ** possible solution: Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 education!

No, It isn't....BUT...It has religious, political, and cultural consequences that are **NOT** neutral.

Government schools can **not** teach about the origins of man in a religiously neutral manner that is free of religious consequences. It is impossible!

The solution is to begin privatizing universal K-12 education.

There are private schools and churches all over the place. Teach religion there

Don't be one of the bullies demanding that taxpayers pay for your government schools. Don't be a bully and force those with no option to attend these government schools. And, don't whine if the other side becomes more powerful and make you pay for their educational philosophy.

The solution: Complete separation of SCHOOL and state!

Should pacifists have to pay for the military? Should people who don't have cars pay for roads? Should anyone pay for anything they don't use? In an anarchy, no. In a representative republic, yes, if it is the law of the land. If you don't like it, change the law or move out. Meanwhile make churches pay their fair share.

I am doing that. I am doing all that I can to get government out of education. Government schools are a freedom of conscience and First Amendment abomination!

What's needed is a free market in education, and complete separation of School and State.

That way bullies who believe in evolution can not shove it down the throats of other people's children,... and... IDers and Creationists can not shove their beliefs down the throats of the Darwinists’ children.

Both are sides are BULLIES! Pull the rug out from both of them!

Why can't your kids learn about God in church? Don't you attend church? You know churches don't force you to pay, so you are under no great financial burden.

The last I read the Constituion provided for a military. It says nothing about education... However..., the First Amendment says plenty about:

Free Speech: Trashed in government schools! Children and parents are ordered to shut up!

Free Press: Trashed again by the government in its schools!

Free Assembly: Trashed by our government! School bureaucrats strictly assign with whom children will assemble.

Free Expression of Religion: It is impossible to freely expression your religion if the government orders a child to shut up for most of the day. Ditto for the parent if he should be on the premises.

Establishment of Religion: Government establishes religious belief every minute of every school day. Why? Because it is **IMPOSSIBLE** to have a religiously neutral education. Evolution is merely one of thousands of similar issues!

Soliton, somehow I expect that you want this to get into a debate about the rightness or wrongness of evolution. Sorry! That isn't the real problem here. The **real** problem is government schools that bully children into its indoctrination camp and then feeds them the agenda of the most politically powerful!

The first amendment says NOTHING about education OR the Military. The preamble does:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

They can't now. It is against the constitution

Under your broad definition communism could be condoned under the “general welfare” clause.

Do you mean theoretical communism, or the historical communism?

Not all Jewish are religious. Not all “Christians” believe in Christ.

Holy crap! Someone who actually thinks critically on this issue! Good luck dealing with the rocket scientists that populate these threads.
