Ocean Colors, an impressive winner in her first start, may be the sentimental choice heading in to the $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes (gr. III) on Saratogas opening day, July 23. Eleven 2-year-old fillies will carry 119 pounds while contesting the six-furlong contest, and all of them are seeking their first stakes victory.
However, what makes Ocean Colors stand out is the fact that she is the second-to-last foal out of the late Winning Colors, who won the 1988 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and died earlier this year at age 23 following complications from colic.
While a champion on the racetrack, to date Winning Colors has never reproduced herself as a broodmare. But June 13, Ocean Colors served notice that she may be that runner for her dam when she broke her maiden by 5 1/4 lengths in a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs. Steve Asmussen trains the homebred Orientate filly for Gainesway Thoroughbreds.
Challenging Ocean Colors will be several other fillies that were also impressive in their racing debuts. Collegiate, Jardin, Mani Bhavan, Ouchy Night, and Chartreux all broke their maiden at first asking for their connections.

Several others attempting the Schuylerville will be looking to redeem themselves after failing in their first try at added-money company. After breaking their maidens, Renda, who is conditioned by Juan Arias, and Cameron Crazies, a D. Wayne Lukas trainee, finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the June 28 Debutante Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs behind Garden District.
Tons of speed in here today.
While living in NYC, I always enjoyed hitting OTB for the meeting at the “Graveyard Of Favorites”
Did you ever get a chance to go to the track? Beautiful place. (As racetracks go.)
I expect to be up there Saturday and Sunday.

I'm not a punter, but I always enjoyed hitting a longshot or two in August. ;)
Wagering joke......Fellow standing next to the trash can at a concession stand at the Big A. He looks down and sees a stack of tickets on the edge of the trash can. Upon picking them up he realizes that there are nine $10 tickets for the winner of the previous race. He immediately goes diving into and rummaging through the trash. “What are ya doin’?” asks his buddy. He replies, “NOBODY buys just nine $10 tickets!”
Think I’ll bet from home today also.
Thanks for the link. I’ll listen in.
Sunny. Good. Hope the rain holds off.
Is he serious? Shoot.
Great town also.
Traveling to and from school in VT (early 60s) we used to stop there for a beer break....D’Andrea’s (Sp?)

If you pass, I won’t tell anyone.
Not impressed with the field. Think it’s between the 11, 3, 10. Depending on odds, will probably go 11 to wn, 11/3,4,10 ex.
11= 7/2. Not great but I’ll try it.
Oh well...
I think I'm going to try Lookin At Her to turn the tables on the #1 in the 5th. He was quite wide in that June race at Belmont while the #1 came up the rail, and the price is much nicer on the #2.

We would come across through Whitehall, NY and pick up the Northway(now I 87)) just south of Lake George. IIRC, that was as far north as it went at the time. Besides, the sooner we could get into NYS, the sooner we could get beer (18 yr. limit then) Saratoga would be just right for a pit stop and replenishment.
Winning streak now at six! (A personal record, I think.) Favorite, Stormin Normandy looks tough in the upcoming eighth.

Had a storm come through here, so unplugged the pc and went to the bar after the 4th.
Great day for you. I also liked the Hushion horse in the 9th.
