Peter Hong, a longtime Republican operative in Minnesota, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a charge of soliciting prostitution in St. Paul.
Police spokesman Peter Panos said that the arrest came during the first day of a two-day sting operation during which "johns" and prostitutes responded to ads placed on the Internet and in print. Thirty-five people were arrested Wednesday and Thursday, Panos said today.
He declined to say where the undercover operation was based.
According to city and county records, Hong, 41, of Minneapolis, was arrested at about 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday and arrived at the Ramsey County jail just after 5 p.m. He was one of at least 19 men swept up during the first day of the sting, police records show.
Hong, reached by phone Thursday, said: "I don't have any comment."
Hong has been in and out of the Republican side of Minnesota politics since the mid-1990s, when he surfaced as a genial bulldog campaign press secretary for former Sen. Rod Grams, R-Minn. He served as a spokesman for Gov. Tim Pawlenty's campaign in 2002 and for the Bush-Cheney campaign in Minnesota in 2004.
Most recently, Hong was a point person for presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Gina Countryman, a spokeswoman for the Minnesota Republican Party, said Hong is not currently working for any Minnesota candidate.

On a side note, I knew this guy back in the late 80's when were in Minnesota College Republicans - although we went to different schools.
Comments or opinions - anyone?

FREEPMAIL ME IF YOU WANT ON OR OFF THIS LIST!
why don’t they just go to Nevada where it’s legal?
Ploiceman Peter Panos.......you have GOT to be kidding!
Hong, like a hoarse.
Sounds like Minnesota Republicans were unable to keep their Peter under control.
HA!
Send this to Don Surber (http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber) for his “Name That Party” section.
File it with allegation against Edwards...
Meanwhile, a man who would cheat on his dying wife, JOHN EDWARDS, gets ZERO MSM coverage when caught meeting with his mistress and most likely, their love child.
Had it been a 'Rat, however...
More like Hong is “well hung”.
Jailhouse humor, of course.
You knew him? Was he a geek or a nerd back then? Did he have some kind of sex addiction?
I'm kinda pining for the days when we were flyover country.
Have you seen much reporting on John Edwards hiding in bathroom after tryst with mistress and love child? Media is doing its best to cover it up.
Oh fer cryin out loud. Was it at least a FEMALE prostitute?
What else should we expect? Since the Pubbies won’t advance the Republican platform and continue to veer to the left, why should deviance and vice be far behind?
BTW, I turned down another RNC caller tonight in no uncertain terms. McCain will get my vote (because I need a little more time before the long plunge into hell), but that’s all he’ll get. Other typical Pubbies (i.e.; Coleman) can go p*ss up a rope.
I feel like Norm is a sex scandal waiting to happen. I can’t believe it hasn’t in six years. He, how shall we say, “acted inappropriately” towards a few female friends of mine back when he was Mayor. Also, have you seen that commercial with his wife where he takes out the trash? It looks to me like they shot her in front a blue screen and superimposed her - the lighting doesn’t match and she and Norm don’t even look at each other.
As much as I would love for that to be true, the National Enquirer is not exactly what I would call a credible source. If he really did run away from then, it could very well be because it was the middle of the night and I doubt he was properly primped to allow a photograph to be taken.
He wasn’t quite a nerd. He was likable - yet not particularly dynamic.
I voted against him when he ran for Minnesota Chair of the College Republicans for the 1987-88 school year.
There was a rivalry between the Carleton/St Olaf CR’s and the Univ of Minnesota CR’s. I was among the Univ of Mn delegates. Our candidate lost. He won.
As I recall, he did a respectable job as state chair of the CR’s.
I hope it was a female prostitute!
Word.........:*)
I’ve heard those rumors and stories too - and surprisingly from more GOP’ers than DFL’ers.
Coleman had really better watch it. Maybe he needs a few more cold showers or extra doses of saltpeter in his food.
Jim Ramstad was a bit of a player back in the 80’s and early 90’s too. You should have seen some of the lookers he brought to political dinners and receptions. Yowsah!
But there was a difference. Jim Ramstad was single. Norm Coleman isn’t.
I'm really very surprised he's managed to avoid scandal - either he's changed his ways a lot or he's just been lucky. I remember a couple years ago his father was caught having sex in the parking lot at Red Savoy's, so maybe that was a wake-up call for him. I'm also surprised more of this didn't come up in the 2002 election - the only person who brought it up was Garrison Keillor, but anybody who listens to him wasn't going to vote for Coleman anyway. A lot of GOPers dismissed at bull, but it's actually not.
Between his RINO politics and the fact that personal friends of mine have been harassed by him, I really don't care if he gets caught. Of course, I'd prefer it to be after the election, so we don't end up with Al Franken in the Senate. I may be voting for Dean Barkley myself - I can't bring myself to vote for Coleman.
meanwhile the media ignores Breck girl getting busted.
I think you are correct. Seems to me, too, that Norm and his Mrs. are about as close as the N & S poles. Of course, if you were married to somebody as plastic as Norm or Obama, wouldn’t you be a bit peaved and stand-offish?
I get the impression it’s a marriage of convenience for both of them. She’s his trophy wife who doesn’t care what he does, and he’s the powerful Senator.
