Not fade away: Rolling Stones' Jagger turns 65
AFP ^ | July 26th, 2008

Mick Jagger, the snake-hipped, rubber-lipped frontman of the Rolling Stones, celebrates his 65th birthday Saturday but shows no signs of slowing down, despite officially becoming an old age pensioner.

At an age when most British men are retiring from work and claiming state pensions, Jagger is dating a woman some 25 years his junior -- stylist L'Wren Scott -- counting his millions after the Stones' record-grossing "Bigger Bang" tour and branching out into film production.

His behaviour may not be as hellraising as that of fellow Stone Ronnie Wood, who last week entered rehab to receive treatment for alcohol abuse after running off with a 19-year-old Russian cocktail waitress.

I guess it's the sex that is keeping him alive after the consistent abuse with drugs, alcohol, and the rock-n-roll lifestyle.

He’s a living lab rat about how long a person can live and conceive after consuming massive amounts of chemicals.

Wow! Mick turning 65 suddenly makes me feel like a youngster. My hubby absolutely loves The Stones, but I’ve always been a bigger fan of Queen, really. Too bad Mercury didn’t live as long as Jagger.

Yabut ... at what expense?

(No offense, Rache ... it's just the only pic I could find)

Just sad. I remember something about Ginger Baker saying he didn’t want to be doing this when he was 60 . . . and a few years ago, there he was at the Royal Albert Hall playing “Toad,” well over 60.

His new girlfriend. She’s only 20 years younger than Mick. I guess Mick is now into older women.

Now when Mick sings “Going to a Go-Go”, he means he going to the bathroom.

I saw John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers in concert after he hdad turned 73 years old!

He was great, by the way.

I also saw Earl Scruggs, John Lee Hooker and BB King...

Age doesn’t mean one’s musical skills grow faint with age.

Ed

I also saw The Moody Blues and Brian Wilson in concert, they were great too.

Oh, and John Kay of Steppenwolf.

Are you guys getting Mick confused with Keith? I don’t think Mick ever really had a prodigious drug habit. I think he is more of the type to do 3 hours of aerobics a day so he could live long enough to enjoy his 200 million pounds [sterling, not flab].

Ok, got you beat: I OPENED for Steppenwolf with John Kay in 1974 (?) in West Palm Beach auditorium. My band, then “Savoy Brown,” then the Step was the show.

WAY cool!!!

Man, I bet that was a kick, opening for Steppenwolf!

How did you change from being a rock ‘n’ roller into an acclaimed author?!

Chuck Berry is still touring at 81 (I believe that is his age).

In August I’m going to see Bob Dylan and then in September Leon Russell. I’m excited for both of those.

One of those things. We were close, opening for the “James Gang” and friends with the Allman Bros., but I got sick of the road and there were “artistic differences” in the band as to what kinds of songs we would do. So I went back to school, thinking I’d still play at night and sub during the day or even get a full-time teaching gig during the day, and when I went back to take a U.S. history class, the professor was so different from anyone I’d ever heard before (an Orthodox Jew, and a conservative) that I decided right there I wanted to be a history prof.

Wow, what a neat story.

Sad for the music world, great for the political/historical world!

Thanks, Larry,

Ed

LOL, not sure it’s sad at all for the music world. I was a slightly above average rock drummer, only because of a unique style I worked on-—but I couldn’t read music worth crap (dropped out of ASU marching band after less than a semester)-—and never could have made a living in music unless I had been lucky enough to become a Charlie Watts-type.

Ginger Baker will be 69 on 19th Aug. 2008.

Saw televised show with Cream a couple of years ago, from London and NYC.

The three of them can still make good music. I have been a fan of Cream since their first album, when they dazzled us with one of the top musical sounds of all time. Rock/blues wise.

I can’t help but to remember this ditty from the late, great Gilda Radner:

Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan

Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan
So rock me and roll me ‘til I’m sick.”

[Struts up and down the stage]

“Some girls want Travolta
All black and white and slick
But there’s screamin’ hunky mamas yellin’
Gimme Mick

Well my fine performance
Take my wife and all that shtick
Makes me die just ta meet ya

(Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick)
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan
So rock me and roll me ‘til I’m sick

You, Mick Jagger, actually continue to perform at a concert where someone got knifed and killed during the 60’s
You, Mick Jagger, are English and go out with a model and get an incredible amount of publicity
You, Mick Jagger, don’t keep regular hours
You, Mick Jagger, have the greatest rock ‘n roll band in the history of rock ‘n roll, and you don’t even play an instrument yourself

(Rock ‘n roll, rock ‘n roll
Gimme gimme gimme rock ‘n roll)
Gimme gimme rock ‘n roll
(Gimme gimme gimme gimme)
Gimme gimme
Gimme gimme gimme gimme

Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan
So rock me and roll meeee...
‘Til I’m sick [burps]-Ugh!”
