The topic was opened with Shooter 2.5's Friday Gun Porn thread for some general fun. This thread is a little more serious, but the general tone of the subject will be anywhere in between. There's one rule: No cannibalism. There are enough forces trying to get rid of us already. They don't need, or deserve, any help.
We hope you'll enjoy this topic.

This thread really explains it in very plain simple terms.
Thank you for the great post
I try to never miss anything written by Mr. Grossman. His thoughts about armed defense go straight through to psyche defense, as well. I was reading his works long before I met his son who was dating my daughter. And so, I got to visually see the effects of such affirmative parenting: You'd never meet a finer, more gentler and sensitive warrior than Mr. Grossman's son.

Marking.
Nice article.
Kinda leaves out those of us who believe The American Citizen is "authorized" to be armed, in church, school, commercial aircraft, anywhere, by the providential circumstance of his birth.
A lot of "sheepdogs" out there would have a problem with that. Many natural "sheepdogs" among us are seen as "sheep" by the Official "sheepdogs", and if the "sheep" dare to arm themselves, they are seen as "wolves".
IMHO, if the People were properly permitted to arm themselves and carry on as Free Citizens, the Official "sheepdogs" would be needed only as cleanup crew.
Editorially, the article could’ve been tightened up a bit, but it was still a good read. Thanks! :)
Please add me to the ping list as well!
I can understand the sheep. It must be nice to live your life and never know what it’s like to be in a fight, to be robbed or to have any act of violence happen around you.
What I don’t understand is when the sheep do find out exactly what our world can be like in it’s terror and horror and they still don’t see the connection in trying to save themselves by learning to fight back.
The only thing I can figure out is they don’t want to dedicate the time, money and effort in learning how to fight back. Either that or they just don’t want to think about it.
Perhaps a word about “Cannibalism”. What sig226 means by use of that term is the tendency among hunters and shooters to form exclusive cliques around their particular favorite subdiscipline of a chosen sport, to the extent that they may even act to exclude or speak in detriment to other sub specialties. Among the firearms fraternity, a common example of a “cannibal” is the trap or skeet shooter who will be heard saying “I don’t see why anybody needs to own a handgun, so I don’t mind a handgun ban”. Probably the most visible and widely known example was the statement once made and since sincerely retracted, by Jim Zumbo, to the effect that he didn’t see a legitimate hunting use for “black rifles”. He was nearly handed his head on a platter, and having been educates as to how erosion of second amendment rights can happen incrementally enabled by his former thinking, he has since become a staunch advocate for ALL gun owners.
The point sig and many of us who love and practice a wide variety of shooting disciplines want to hammer home is that if we don’t hang together, we will all hang separately.
I currently don’t engage in long range target shooting with big bore rifles, but I will someday when I have more time and I enthusiastically support those who do and work hard to fight against .50 caliber bans that have become a popular target for anti second amendment lawmakers.
Same goes for the full-automatic fraternity. I am laying groundwork to join that soon.
Anything that launches one or several directable projectiles out of a muzzle, by force of pressurized gas, is protected by the second amendment as far as I’m concerned and is fine with me as long as you handle it competently and safely.
Shoot ‘em up!
Meter maids are NOT “sheepdogs”.
Thanks!!!
Woof!
There are sheep and there are shepherds then there are Rottweilers.

Some sheepdogs use this to their advantage. Properly trained by his Master, the Komondor is both a family pet, and a close-in last-ditch defense for the sheep, because he looks like a sheep. That is, until the wolf makes the fatal mistake of not seeing one "sheep" charging out of the herd, and ripping the wolf's throat out.
Perhaps best described as a "Rottweiler in a ghillie suit" as far as temperament goes, they have to be trained young to downplay their over-protectiveness. And to get their dreadlocks started.
I would venture to say that a huge majority of these violent crimes are committed by illegals, and it's only going to get worse! IF we didn't have their totals added in, it would be much, much less. These are the same criminals we're going to make citizens in the first "hundred days" of the next presiding traitor!!
The sheep comment is very appropriate - and in tune with my long-standing signature.
I remember reading of a violent incident at a K-Mart where the shoppers were aware of the problem. I think it was a nutcase with a knife running around and shouting.
One customer later commented that his kid asked him “Dad do you have your gun?” (a big No No IMO). Other customers heard the kid and started to gather around the guy for protection. Probably the same ones who would have been against passage of CCW.
