USCGC Eagle

The U.S. Coast Guard Barque EAGLE, a 295', 1800 ton, steel hull, three masted sailing vessel, is the only active tall ship in U. S. government service. It has been training future U.S. Coast Guard officers for over half a century, and despite being 19th century technology, EAGLE continues to produce leaders of character for the nation's smallest armed service. Home ported at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London CT, Eagle is the training ship for future U.S. Coast Guard officers. The summered training deployment takes it to exciting ports of call all over the globe. While sailing, cadets and officer candidates train in the basics of leadership, seamanship and character.
If you ever have a chance to board her when she is in port ... don't miss the chance! :)

After a long loyal service in the Coast Guard, my Dad, at 86, now has Alzheimer’s and would likely not understand my birthday greetings about this, so I’m glad to know I can express it here to folks who appreciate what he did. Thanks for the reminder of this date. For other Coasties, he was the Captain of the Half Moon until it was decomissioned around ‘68 after its return from their service in Vietnam.
