Medellin executed for rape, murder of Houston teens By ALLAN TURNER and ROSANNA RUIZ Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle Aug. 6, 2008, 12:36AM Comments Recommend 1 2 3
Texas Department of Criminal Justice Jose Medellin's case created international controversy when the United Nations' world court determined Texas had violated the killer's rights under the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
Share Print Email Del.icio.usDiggTechnoratiYahoo! BuzzHUNTSVILLE The state of Texas defied an international court and executed Jose Ernesto Medellin late Tuesday after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay of execution for the killer in the 1993 Houston gang rape-murders of two teenage girls.
Medellin, 33, was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 9:57 p.m., nine minutes after receiving the fatal cocktail and nearly four hours after his scheduled 6 p.m. execution.
In his final statement, Medellin apologized for his crime: "I'm sorry that my actions brought you pain. I hope this brings the closure to what you seek," he said. "Don't ever hate them for what they do. Never harbor hate."
He then looked toward the witness room in which his friend, Sandra Crisp, was watching, crying softly, and smiled. "I love you," he said.
In the adjoining witness room, relatives of the two victims watched with little apparent emotion.
Medellin, a Mexican national who spent most of his life in the United States, was condemned for the June 1993 murders of Jennifer Ertman, 14, and Elizabeth Peña, 16.
The girls were raped and strangled with a belt and shoelace after they stumbled into a drunken gang initiation rite while cutting through the park to get home before their curfew.

GRRRRRREAT news! Thanks for posting.
Perry might be an evil globalist, SOB but, when it comes to guns, gall and the death penalty, he’s #1.
Now to get his carcass sent to The Hague and dumped on the steps of the “World Court”.
I don’t usually listen to radio but did on Monday. Gov Perry was on Hannity. He said he’d read court papers about the crime and was sickened by what was done to these 2 kids. He then said that Texas would execute Medellin, that there would be no backing down.
He did not apologize for what he did to those girls. And he made it about himself to the very end...do not hate for what they do to me indeed. How about anger and rightous indignation for what you did to those two innocent girls you dead cretin?
May what happened last night be a warning to all such.
Better consult with your embassy and consulate before you rape and kill in Texas because Texas is going execute you for such deeds...as well they should.
Justice served...15 years late...but served none the less and at the same time a spit in the eye to the UN the World Court and Mexico. <> Good on Texas, my native State...God bless the families of these girls and rest those girls souls.
Now, the gang leader himself, Cantu, is next and his execution date will come none too soon. I hope they set it soon.
If only the Bush administration would follow Texas’ lead.
“If only the Bush administration would follow Texas lead.”
Hey, what we need is a former Texas Governor for Presidents... Oh, Wait. Never mind.
I still don’t think GW is a bad president, unlike BJ, but I’m really disappointed in him, far too frequently.
What is wrong here?
Adiós y quemar en el infierno!
Texas defied our Authoritay!!!
No. Texas said pound your “opinions” and sanctimonious bulls—t up your fat a$$es and if any of you worthless european and third world a-holes ‘f up in Texas you’ll get what Medellin got and then some!!!!!!!!!!
Thumb in the eye of the international courts bump!!
"...not even OJ's dream team!"
Good for Texas!!
I read a transcript from a witness who described what these guys did, after they bragged about it to her.
It was below any level of humanity. Now let this rapist-murdered truly be judged.
God Bless Texas!
IMO, h#ll is too good for this dead vermin. Throw his sorry carcus in a field for the buzzrds and the rodents.
I pray that the families of these two beautiful young girls and the souls of the girls themselves are, at long last, at peace!
Thank you Texas, my adopted home state, for finally seeing that justice is carried out.
Yet Bush wanted his life spared. Of course, Bush is doing nothing about the framing of our BP agents. IMHO, Bush has no love for this country. What has he done to protect our borders while we have troops protecting the borders of foreign countries?
Bush is marginally on America’s side, except when it comes to Mexico.
It drives me nuts how the butcher always preaches at the victims families about how they shouldn’t hate.
For the record, he got off too easily. A belt and shoelaces after the same treatment he gave the girls would have been more appropriate.
They should now dump Medllin’s corpse off at the Mexican Consulate, for forwarding on to the World Court.
I only regret Texas didn’t kill the scum a lot sooner. All of his murderous cronies ought to die, too.
Yes, Perry was on the right side on this. Amazingly. So was the SCOTUS. I’m glad they addressed it, maybe it will stop more of the same nonsense by the ‘world court’ and appeasing administrations.
TEXAS: “You kill us and we’ll kill ya back.”
>>Bush is marginally on Americas side, except when it comes to Mexico.<<
Sad day indeed, when a President of the U.S. sides with a killer, the Mexican government, and an international court over the rule of law in the U.S.
Thanks, Texas, for saving our legal sovereignty
