Doesn’t Phelps have 5 or 6 more gold medals to win? We’ll see what happens if things are still fudged up by the 3rd or 4th gold medal ceremony.

He had a CTJ with Putin during the opening ceremonies before Putin left. I thought the timing of both being there was good.

For anyone who saw the whole thing, do we know if they actually cut off the anthem or if it was just poor editing on the TV studio’s part?

I lost it when they showed his mom and sisters in the stands bawling. No one cries alone when I am around. LOL

What you are seeing as a "white stripe on the flag" is actually the metal holding clamp that holds the flag in the raising apparatus.

Note the same white holder at the top of the Hungarian flag on the far right. No conspiracy going on...

IMHO the facility and IOC is in charge of playing the anthem ..not NBC or its affiliates. Therefore it could have been human error on the part of the person actually playing the recording.... however I think it was intentional. I would like to be factually told I am being unrealistic here but we are talking CHINA. I still want more info on the little boy with Yao Ming and actual footage or story of the boy and his family right after the earthquake. (PS. families of the deceased children have been given hush money to not discuss the death of their children)

I was just wondering if it was via the tv editing before we see it. Everything we are watching happened several hours ago, so it may have played correctly there but the broadcast was poorly edited.

The actual race was LIVE on nbc at about 10 pm est last night which was great for us who love live events.

I do not know if the medal ceremony was live or not.

A lot of events will be live on NBC at night due to the 12 hour time difference and the fact that many final events are late morning early afternoon in China and will thus air live on NBC nightly coverage.

To me, it sounded like they played the anthem twice accidentally, it repeated.

So they just cut it off, everyone was smiling so I think they all heard the same thing.

Was Phelps expression of the anthem being cut short edited in? Plain and simple someone screwed up. I’m sure they are going to get quite a few more oppurtunities to play it again! Then we’ll know.

No problem...if the US Flag postage stamp could be messed up, it’s not far fetched to think it could happen other places.

The playing of the national anthem was messed up...repeating the opening several times....

and then just at the part “the land of the free, and the home of the brave” -—the song suddenly stopped and that part was not played.

I thought it might be intentional, but maybe not. If they could put on such an opening night spectacle, I wondered why they couldn’t play a simple USA national anthem.

Mistakes do happen, I guess. Hope it doesn’t happen again.
