Knowing that there is a lot of fans of the Stargate franchise. Sorry to report that both MGM and SciFi Channel cancelled Stargate Atlantis. There will be no sixth season. I, for one, will miss SGA and the "This week SciFi weekly thread" will not in a long time list a Stargate series. "sniff"

Oddly enough, I've never seen an episode. Then again, I just about finished up the original series. I've been PVRing all the reruns of SG1 on Sci-Fi and I've gotten most of them.
I was figuring I'd start with Atlantis after I completed SG1. Oh, well.

Sad but not unsurprising. The show has lost it’s edge and has lacked any new thrilling plots for a while.
Still, it’ll be sad to see it go. Wonder if there will be a “Stargate the next generation” or “Stargate Voyager”...
Sigh.

The good news, is that the series will be followed by a 2 hour SGA movie.
At it sounds like they may do more SG1 movies also.

I'm not surprised... Here is what happened:
1. Lack of a cohesive cast..
2. Copying SG1 episodes with Atlantis...

Oh, cripes. And I haven’t gotten over Firefly being cancelled yet.
I understand all the reasons and understand that shows have to have enough viewers to survive. So I blame the idiot public. Even lackluster episodes of SciFi are better than any stinking reality show or (yeeech) sitcom. (pardon the dirty word). Unless it’s a sitcom like Red Dwarf.

Well, darn, darn, darn, darn, darn. I liked SG-Atlantis; not as much as SG-1, but it was still enjoyable and I liked the characters, especially McKay and Ronan.
But tell us more about this: Plus there will be another Stargate TV Show... Will it be a spinoff like Atlantis, or an entirely different show?

Yep, but I haven’t been much of a Sci Fi watcher for the last few years - other than Firefly and BSG (before it got silly). I wasn’t a Stargate fan, nor did I like the post TNG Treks (and I gave them all a chance), so it’s been bleak for me for a while.
To: TheWasteLand
Perhaps Ill check out a few episodes and see if it floats my boat.Do yourself a favor and DON'T start at the beginning in Year 1, it started so slow it was a turn-off to me. I only got real involved in Year 2 and then went back to watch Year 1 later to fill-in the story line. It may be just me but if you do start at Year 1 - give it several episodes before saying yea or nay. Obviously I ended up watching it all and bought the DVDs and I want more even now.

Interesting. I’m usually willing to give a show at least half a season before I decide. So as long as it picks up after the first few episodes, that’s okay with me.
To: KevinDavis
The premise sounds interesting, but the writer/producer credits are somewhat concerning. I wouldn’t put Shark, Without a Trace, Jack and Bobby, Lara Croft, Tomb Raider at the top of my must-see picks. But still, an interesting premise.
To: avalonmistmoon
The stars probably wanted to actually get paid.
TV is such a waste of time. The SciFi Channel and the nature channels are all I watch any more. I don’t much even bother with movies any more. Hollywood is dominated by mutant retards.

I just picked up the Sarah Connors Terminator Season 1 DVD set, now we have this big space vacuum, Dr Who is gone except for reruns, no more Stargate except maybe another DVD.
If there was some brains in Hollywood which we all know is unlikely they would consider bringing back some old classics like Time Tunnel, or a revamped Lost in Space, myself I would get real interested in a Halo series on TV if not the big screen.

The brought Amanda Tapping over as the new commander and hardly used her before replacing her with Robert Picardo. That type of turmoil in the main cast often leads to the demise of a show. I still miss SG1 and was happy to see the crossover to SG Atlantis. I wonder how bad were the ratings?

Blame reality TV. That crap is cheaper and easier to produce and for some reason people love it. I find most of it to be mindless garbage, but it is responsible for the demise of most good shows.
To: BCR #226
Yep, I think it’s going to be called ‘Stargate: Universe’ or something like that (hopefully they’ll come up with a better name) and apparently they find gates with 9 different whatchamacallits on them, although in Atlantis they only used the 8th one to get back and forth between galaxies, so why they even need a 9th one is completely beyond me. Oh, and now Stargate has officially beat Buffy for ‘number of good spin-offs from one movie nobody watched’.
Though I’ll have to admit the last episode of Atlantis, with the alternate-reality drive, was one of the most pointless I’ve ever seen. Aside from the fact that a similar plot was done before in SG-1, I still could not possibly think of why anyone could possibly have the desire, a plausible reason, or even the belief that it wasn’t a horribly bad idea, to just explore alternate realities at random.

In a way, it’s too bad because the show wasn’t bad but on the other hand, it didn’t really stand out either.
One or two episodes per 10 episodes would really stand out and then there would be 5 episodes about escorting a princess brat or the new doctor not being a warrior.
