Live Science ^ | Aug 28, 2008 | Charles Q. Choi

Giant clams two feet long might have helped feed prehistoric humans as they first migrated out of Africa, new research reveals.

< >

Fossil evidence that the researchers uncovered suggests the stocks of these giant clams began crashing some 125,000 years ago, during the last interval between glacial periods. During that time, scientists think modern humans first emerged out of Africa, Richter said.

During that time, scientists think modern humans first emerged out of Africa, and used their turkey fryers to fry the clams. Richter said.

Well of course. Even prehistoric humans knew you'd have to be foolish to take a trip without a pocketful of clams...

If you read diarys from real people in the New Amsterdam Colonies (New York City), They talk of oysters the size of dinner plates. The brook trout were 14” long and highly sought after by the gentry.

You don’t have to believe in evolution to comprehend that Elaine Morgan is probably right in thinking that humans originally lived in water. ASSUMING that to be the case, you’d have to assume the original human diet would have been some combination of shellfish and fruit.

Leaving Africa, early humans ate some bad clams and turned white. Some humans still carry the gene that seels the bad clam taste. How else to explain Clamoto?

"Giant clams two feet long might have helped feed prehistoric humans..."

Well, if the Indians helped feed the Pilgrims and we see what happened to them, is it really that far of a stretch?????......

Yeah...I posted before reading the thread...lol. For some reason that comic has stuck in my head since I first saw it. I have been known to utter that phrase...Clams got legs!...and chuckle to no one in particular at dinners and buffets. Much to the worried concern of those around.

But occasionally...someone else will know the joke and reply...Now we have to kill you!

We still eat giant clams in the south pacific, although the really giant ones are rare now because they’re just so delicious.

...the really giant ones are rare now because they’re just so delicious.

If early humans gobbled them up then that would explain why.

You don’t have to believe in evolution to comprehend that Elaine Morgan is probably right in thinking that humans originally lived in water.

Paleontologists and evolutionary biologists think that Morgan's ideas are both unsupported and silly, and generally ignore them.
