The stop sign seems rather superfluous, doesn’t it?
Its Blocked Martin???
Looks like Highway 90 is under the weather. The road runs along the beach, for the longest while there was no development on the beach side. Then it started ...
The old Jeff Davis mansions were built way back up in the oak trees, high enough for most storms, but Katrina was too much. There is a railroad track that runs along the top of the dune line about 1/2 mile from the beach, the rails are about 35-40 feet above sea level. When I was a kid we lived in Biloxi, on the other side of the tracks.
It was beautiful, then came Katrina ... Our old house is still standing, but not much survived on the beach side of the tracks.
When I was working for the Highway department in Gulfport in the late 1980's, one of our projects was paving Hwy. 90. One of the contractors told me that, by paving on the beach, it was like paving on jello.
when I toured Hwy 90 two weeks after Katrina, Hwy. 90 had a bunch of HUGE sunken holes in it.
Wow.
Somebody’s got a big mess to clean up
again.
Somebody kept the power on. Nice work!

On the Plus Side, there's a special on McFish.
LOL!
It actually looks worse than it is I think, I was there for
Camille, HWY 90 was trashed and thrown around like dominoes.
That always seems to happen when you put a HWY on a beach.
Having been on that road lately, I know what’s under water. wow.
Ancient history: We vacationed in Biloxi every Eastertime when I was a kid and the White House Hotel was the elegant place to stay. I love the area but have no desire to see its new look.
I take it the Jefferson mansion did not survive?
Do you know how Jefferson Davis’s home “Beauvoir” fared in Biloxi? It was devastated during Katrina and they just had a new opening in August. The renovations weren’t completely finished prior to Gustav. I just checked their website and there isn’t any news of the storm posted. Any info would be appreciated.
Where are all the DBM satellite trucks? < /sarc
There was considerable damage, off of Hwy 90, they are looking at repairing where possible. I don’t know how extensive the damage was to the historic district, it was mostly off limits. The big beautiful oaks were devastated.
I didn’t realize they had boat ramps at the Biloxi portion of the bea.......Oh! THAT’S A STREET! :P

Ironic sign on this building.
