Biden, a nasty man, is playing it smart. He’s being gracious. He can’t win unless she falls apart, and that isn’t going to happen.

Biden is a stuffed shirt liberal but he isn’t stupid. He knows that he loses if he comes off mean or condescending to Palin. So he finds himself in the position of playing down the debate, chastising the media on her behalf, and setting expectations for her very high. Then, if he can make her stumble she will not have lived up to her own hype. He is being smart.

I doubt that but it would be nice if he was afraid. My guess is he’s trying to establish the bar so high that any miscues or slips she may make makes her seem to have faultered. Good strategy on his part, imo.
Palin should reciprocate by saying thank you, but no, she’ll never be able to out-schmooze a man who’s spent the last 15,000 years as a senator.

when i first read the title of this thread, i laughed out loud. Biden knows Palin is out of his league
strategy. it is all strategy. he is over building her up (too much). he is building up excessive expectations. japanese would say “kadai hyouka”`. clever tactic. i know what they are up to. then the pull the rug out from under her, and the whole mass media chorus will say, “disappointment”. she should just start staying the same things about him in return and build up expectations on him unrealistically. its all a game folks.

Palin is very good, but so is Biden. This is no slam dunk.
The game is all about beating expectations. There’s been too much hype over her speech - if she doesn’t blow Biden out of the water, it will be viewed as a failure. She can do it, but they are giving too much rope.

I’m not so sure about that.
He was interviewed several times that day including on FOX, and in all of them he gave the same canned “she didn’t talk about this that and the other thing”, but this early CNN interview was the only one I heard him say she will beat him. If he kept saying that line all day, then I would concede it was a set up.
I think he saw those zingers she threw at Obama, and he thought, Yikes! Like hearing the patient before you in the dentist office screaming in pain.
I think ol Joe know he’s not going to be around to debate her, his old aneurysm problem is going to kick up and Hillary will ride her broom into town to save the dim’s....yee haw!

Heh, it’d be cool if Palin could work this into her campaign speeches and thank Biden for the vote of confidence but that she prefers to actually have the debate before declaring a winner.
Yes, he’s being smart, but she is smarter. This is just another transparent attempt to set a trap for her. Problem is, I doubt that he’s ever really trapped anything in his life and she’s probably set many a trap line with Todd. There’s just no substitute for a home grown Alaskan upbringing. That’s why we are such a “sparsely populated” state. Most people aren’t tough enough. And I’m a pre-statehood beauty contest runner up who can do all the things Sarah can do and then some, so I should know. She’ll have him for lunch.

She WILL win the debate, but not just because Joe says so. He’s lowering the bar of expectations for himself; which in his mind is a rope-a-dope, thinking that in the end, he’ll really come out the winner...but I don’t think so...not one iota!
Joe Biden will surpass Jack Kemp as the worst VP debater ever.
