Bush Doctrine!?

Posted on 09/12/2008 10:19:12 AM PDT by Care4Facts

How many of readers here, honestly, know what is Bush Doctrine. I mean, if you ask others whether preemptive attack is a part of Bush Doctrine, many will say yes. Now close book, without hint, what is Bush doctrine? I don’t think many can answer this question. I just don’t understand why Gibson likes this sort of academic questions.

Let me give you an example, use “Bush Doctrine” site:www.nytimes.com and search on google, you will only find 658 results. If you search for “President Bush” site:www.nytimes.com, you will find about 183,000 results. If this doctrine is so well-known, why it doesn’t appear more frequently?

Frankly speaking, I don’t think Palin is doing very well in this interview, but neither does Gibson.

In addition to my former example of how many times “Bush Doctrine” appears on the nytimes website and how many times “President Bush” appears. Here is another example: “Bush Doctrine” doesn’t appear on Wikipedia until Sep 11 8PM (apparently after the interview is showed on the ABC): http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bush_Doctrine&action=history

There really is such a thing as the Bush Doctrine insomuch as there is such a thing as the Monroe Doctrine and its various corollaries (sorry, I am a bit of a history geek so I always like tying as much as possible back to the 18th and 19th centuries - a stupid people trick foible of my own personality).

Now what I found interesting about the question and the follow-up questions, was how little GIBSON seemed to understand the actual Bush Doctrine. Yes, he correctly identified the “pre-emptive” component of the doctrine, but he completely missed the aspects that deal with spreading democracy, preventing the spread of WMD and regime change within hostile countries. Also, as memory serves (and I could be wrong as I have an increasingly worsening case of CRS with 3 small kids contributing to massive sleep deprivation and obvious adult ADD) I believe reserving the right of the United States to act UNILATERALLY when the danger is imminent and severe is also a part of the Bush Doctrine, but Gibson didn’t mention that either.

By asking for a clarification of what aspects of the doctrine Gibson was looking for, Palin actually demonstrated a more complete understanding of the actual foreign policy doctrine of this administration since 2002.

“Bush Doctrine” is a term created by the media. President Bush has never applied that name to it himself as far as I know.

I thought the Bush Doctrine was if you are not with us you're against us along with if we think you are going to attack us we will not wait and wipe you out first.

stockpirate, thanks. You see, I am in NYC, and lots of my friends are telling me how terrible right wing medias like National Review and Fox News are and I will have to be an imbecile to read them. You know what? I started to like right wing medias once I started to read them. I am just tired of those condescending, biased left wing media.

No, I am not a troll or poser. As to why I thought Mrs Palin was not doing so well. Maybe it’s because I have a very high expectation on her and wish she could do even better than her speech at Republican Convention. I could be wrong with my judgement. But I really really want her the best, I want her to beat those MSM, I want her to show how foolish, arrogant some of those MSM people are. So that may be the reason why I am a little bit disappointed. But this is just her first show. I believe she can do way better next time and I am praying for that.

It’s a media-coined term that few outside of the media circle have ever heard until last night.

What do I win?

Well, if you are in fact here in good faith, then welcome aboard.

We tend to watch out for operatives and plants who suddenly appear here pretending to be someone they are not, especially at election time, just to sew seeds of rancour, manipulate discussion, and essentially cause trouble for Conservatives.

The ChiComs have an enomormous ongoing military operation that involves planting operatives on prominent U.S. political discussion boards to try and sway public opinion. Likewise, we see a lot of trolls coming over from the Democratic Underground and the Daily Kos to spread their blather too. They usually get zotted pretty quick by the mods once they are exposed.

Yeah, I honestly know what it is, but OTOH I don’t have a huge state to run and five kids to raise.

Because it isn’t really an official policy or order, the term means different things to different people. She was smart to ask him what he meant by it. I think she answered very well.

She showed that she was thoughtful and well studied. People are saying that she was more stiff than she’s been, but how else should she be? They were serious questions on serious subjects. It would’ve been inappropriate to have been all smiley and glib and bouncy.

She did good. You can tell that because the talk has only been about delivery and not the substance of her interview. The substance was there, and unexpectedly so for the Obama camp. So they just mock.

She did good.

I also do not think that many here understand it or understand its flaws.

I would suggest that they start with wikipedia, but even making such a suggestion brings vicious and hateful responses.

For a full explanation of the subject, please see the following link:

Also, I watched and listened to Karl Rove's discussion of the Bush Doctrine on 9/12/08. Can't recall the channel.

Charles Krauthammer was evidently the first one to use that term. He has an excellent article lambasting Charlie Gibson.

Well worth the read. It is also link on Drudge.
The term has had at least four meanings over the years of the Bush Administration.
