Opinions on hotdog and hamburger condiments (Vanity)
FR ^ | 9/19/08 | Domandred

My wife and I are having an argument. When she makes me a hamburger she insists on putting mayo on it. So we got into an argument over the proper condiments for hamburgers and hotdogs.

She insists on ketchup on her hotdogs. Mayo on her burgers. Mayo on hotdogs.

I believe ketchup has no business being on a dog (should be only some form of mustard) and hamburgers can get ketchup+mustard, but not mayo. Mayo is only for deli type sandwiches.

Opinions please.

Onion soup in the meat mix, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, lettuce, more onion, mayo (a touch) and a slab of cheddar. Potato salad, ice cold Corona with lime. Did I leave anything out?

I agree with your wife. And the mayo should only be Duke’s by the way.

It’s like how the Cajun cook Justin Wilson used to answer the question: “What is the best wine for this food?” : the kind you like.

Ketchup is a gastronomical abomination. Whenever you see a bottle of ketchup, know that nothing good will ever come out of it.

For burgers: barbecue sauce or salsa are acceptable, as is mustard. For hot dogs: mustard, sweet relish and sauerkraut piled about 3" high.

A person puts what they like on their food.

Now I like a Carolina Burger every now and again - that's the Burger, Chile and slaw. Cheese? Yes. After that just open the frig door and go to town.

This from a guy that had Branswieger, onions, hot peppers, dill pickles and yellow mustard on white bread for lunch.

Hopefully you and your wife are disagreeing, rather than arguing, over condiments. If you don't like the way your wife dresses up your burger ... prepare it yourself.

Having said all that, no ketchup on dogs for me either. I'll eat mayo on a burger if I have to, but I don't purposely put it there. Mayo on chicken or tuna salad and turkey sandwiches.

It is really a personal preference and not a matter of rules. My husband eats ketchup on everything. We joke that ketchup is a food group, according to him and our boys.

“Really. If you’re not careful, you won’t get anything on your weiner tonight.”

Post of the day candidate.

At last some comic relief.

The only meat product mayo belongs on is the B in BLT.

Mayo should be reserved for salads.

Mustard is the king of condiments and may be used on any burger, hotdog, or sandwich.

Ketchup should only be used when there is no tomato.

Mayo on a burger? NASTY! Why not just use lard? There’s enough fat onthe sucker already. Ketchup and green pickle relish are just fine.

Hot Dogs are disgusting, no need for condiments, those things aren’t fit for my dog!

Mayo and ketchup on hotdogs. Mayo on cheeseburgers, mustard on hamburgers.

And mayo with fries.

Not that it matters, but I put a combination of ketchup, mustard, relish and onions on my hot dogs.

Mayo on the burgers.

What other people put on their burgers and hot dogs shouldn't be an issue to argue over. EVER!!

My husband eats mayo on hamburgers and hotdogs.
I like catsup and pickle on my burgers with lettuce and onion and I like chili, mustard and onions on my hotdogs. I am not a big fan of mayo on anything though.

Mayo should be band by the government as toxic waste.
Hot dogs: hot mustard and sweet relish.
Hamburgers: quality cheese, hot mustard, sweet relish and the smallest bit of catsup.
I beg to differ with your wife: there are no proper condiments for hot dogs and hamburgers, it is whatever you want. My daughter puts pineapple on her burgers - ick.

lol My hubby likes ketchup on hot dogs too. Yuck! I’m mustard-of-some-type only.

I do like mayo on burgers tho. Mayo and a little ketchup.
My FAVORITE condiment is Dijonaise.

Pickle relish and mustard on hot dogs. Hamburgers can have anything-pickles, ketchup, mustard, cheese-EXCEPT mayonnaise.
