Freerepublic.com Election Night Backup Plan

Given how slow FR has been for the past few weeks and now seemingly to slow to a grind, I can't imagine the site being of any use on election night. The traffic would just crush it, especially if it can't handle the current load.
Is there a backup plan? Is the old Yahoo site still up and running?

Ditto and great points. I know that I’ve been wondering why we’ve been shuffling along lately.
I donate automatically, but if we need to raise funds let’s get the ball rolling for more bandwidth and security!

Given Jim’s budget and the amount of traffic FR sees, it’s a wonder that it is up at all.

FYI- when FR is slow or down, I hang out here:
Guest Room for Freepers. This is our Canadian sister site, inspired by Free Republic, and naturally it's a bit different ( you learn to say "eh?" a lot ) but the format is similar in that you can use html, or plain text, and ( most ) of the folks are pretty friendly.

Took me about 5 minutes to log on to FR and post this.

I think if Jim needed just an extra hunk of cash that could be used NOW then I think we should have an immdiate extra quarter of fundraising....let it go on for a week or so and whatever is contributed, put towards servers, etc or whatever is needed.

I’ve tried to register at FD. I never get a confirmation e-mail back that will allow me to post.
Too close to Canada I guess. They must’ve heard of me. :)

My backup plan is a bottle of Scotch. No matter how the night goes and whether FR is working or not it will either sooth the pain or help with the celebration.

That was you picking the olive out of that supermodel’s navel with your teeth, wasn’t it?!? That was you dancing nekkid with Henry Kissinger in the olive grove, wasn’t it?!!??? Huh. Think yer gonna git that information out of us, do you?

I hear that FR is slow if you have a PC, but it’s lightning fast on a Mac.
To: paul544; Jim Robinson
If Jim Robinson is adding two new servers I think they just went on-line at 2:30-2:40 pm.Jim bob if you need extra money please let me know during the next FReepathron.

It has been sluggish for several months now.
It crashed twice — when Hillary was withdrawing and when she endorsed Obama.
It was slow before the last ‘upgrades’ but it has gotten worse. Any ‘live’ events and posting takes forever.

To: cherry
We ordered three new servers two or three weeks ago. They have been received, John configured them, loaded the latest and greatest versions of the systems software, installed them at the data center and is now in the process of working them into our online system. We should begin seeing some improvement soon. He’s already ran into some integration snags though, but hopefully he’ll have it all worked out in time for the debates.
