TMZ has learned the actor who played Random Task in the first "Austin Powers" movie has been charged with a vicious gang rape.
Joe Son's arrest has been all over newspapers in the O.C., but no one connected the dots -- that the suspect is actually Dr. Evil's henchman -- until now.
Here's how it all went down. Son pleaded guilty back in May to felony vandalism. The plea required him to fork over a DNA sample. Investigators ran his sample and found Son's DNA connected him to an unsolved gang rape back in 1990, where a woman was pistol-whipped, raped, threatened with death and eventually blindfolded and released naked.

oh... at first read I thought it was “mini-me”
We need to get DNA samples of everyone in Hollyweird.
Busy guy....
I would have guessed “Fat Bastard”.
That’s *if* it’s his DNA. Remember that recently a survey of the Arizona State prison system came up with something like a dozen DNA matches of different, unrelated people, some of different races. And there are only about 50,000 prisoners in the entire State.(*)(**)
So much for the “1 in 300 million chance” that has been used in about every court hearing involving DNA.
The problem is very similar to the “partial fingerprint match”, that was used to convict any number of people of crimes, but has now been thrown out by a federal judge.
They both use “data points” on the partial fingerprint and the DNA to determine matches, then *assumed* that their data points were very different among people.
But the end result is the same as if you measured sex, height, weight, hair color, eye color, race and age. That is just seven data points, but you can imagine how many people are like you that share exactly those same qualities. Not something you want to go to prison over.
(*) The discoverers of this fact have been told to STFU about it, but the cat is out of the bag. Tens of thousands of trials may be in jeopardy because they assumed that the data points used were rare.
(**) 12 in 50,000 means the chance of a match is 1 in 4,166.
Wow..Joe Son fought in the UFC in it’s early days..like in 1994-1995. He claimed to be a Christian...he even carried a large wooden cross as part of his entrance.
This isn’t outrageous behavior for the deviants in Hollywood.
He was just not famous enough or rich enough for a cover-up.
I have to assume though that the victim was able to at least describe the suspect(s) as asian. From there, it remains to see if the investigators get incriminating statements during the interview.
That's still very good odds for the DNA match being correct. Probably about the same odds as reaching into a 25 lb bag of shelled navy beans while blindfolded, and on the first try picking up the only one of a different color than the other 4,165.
But even at that, if the life of a man on trial, or his freedom for life, is at stake, I would want to be absolutely certain of the DNA evidence beyond any reasonable doubt before voting guilty. Of course any supporting evidence would be a great help, but in this particular case there isn't a mention of anything else, or did I miss something by reading so fast?
I’d be interested in seeing how the statute of limitations works on this one. I Googled it and only came away more confused after 10 minutes of reading. Apparently the SOL for rape in CA is 7 years, but if there are aggravating circumstances it may be that there is no SOL. Also there is no SOL for crimes with DNA evidence, but since I believe that law was passed after 1990 I don’t think it could apply in this case.
I disagree with the shelled navy bean analogy, since there are enormous existing DNA databases and computer searches for “matching” DNA.
So you’re not reaching into a bag to get a bean, the “right” bean hops out of the bag. And if you “know” that it is the bean you are looking for, because it is the *only* bean like that...
At least they didn’t have him whip out a DNA sample.
Your right we need to be more understading of his cultural differences. Chop-stick that on over here....oh and pass the kim chee please! AH those cultural sensitivity seminars are good for something besides catching up on my SLEEP after all!! LOL. It’s nice to know how to be insensitive to a wide group of cultures and persons....Insensitivity for all cultures....What a wonderfull world this would be...HAHAHAHAHAHA
My point was the unnecessarily unappetizing imagery of using a dining utensil as a vehicle for ‘DNA’ especially as the media euphemistically uses that term. This also holds true for knives, spatulas, more practical tools such as spoons and ladles, or your example of chopsticks.
I am clearly in need of more sensitivity training so that I can see the deeper nuance of my utensil choices.
