Powell Sticks It to McCain: a Person He Greatly Respects
Vanity | 10-19-2008 | Shawn Hines

Posted on 10/19/2008 8:15:13 AM PDT by ThankGod4W

Frankly, I could care less that Powell chose to endorse Obama for the presidency. However, I find his logic and reasoning for doing so very weak. It is like he tried to find a better answer than that Obama is the black guy, but couldn't.

And, Powell is quick to point out that he greatly respects McCain and knows that he has disappointed a long-time friend by making this endorsement. Sounds like Powell is conflicted about the endorsement, right?

Well, my biggest problem with the whole thing is the timing of his announcement. If he really respected McCain as he claims, he could have made this announcement two months ago. Powell said today he had made up his mind in the last couple of months.

Instead, he decides to wait until the closing days of a close election so that his decision will harm McCain the worst. (Or so he thinks). Even in endorsing the other guy, that is no way to show proper respect to an old friend. It is contemptible.

Lastly, I really believe that this will blow up in Obama's face. Middle America will see this for what it is. Powell sold his soul today and Obama will be paying the tab at the polls on November 4.

Powell trashed both McCain and Palin...McCain over a false -flag judgement issue and Palin for simply being who she is.

Powell has the audacity (hand in glove with Obama no doubt) to question McCain's judgement in picking the most popular governor in the 50 states and who has more executive experience than her two opponents combined...while giving a pass to the judgement of Obama in hob-knobbing around with abject terrorists, corrupt financiers, and militant racists?

It's time we all called things straight. I do not specifically why Powell made this choice, but I know a skunk when I see one and when I smell one.

One thing for sure, the judgement issue Powell raised is false and ludicrous on its face so it has to be something else. We're probably looking at another Sec State at least, if not VP in the second term should that, God forbid, come about.

I still believe we can stop the first term and am dedicating all my time and efforts and whatever influence I can muster within my own sphere to that goal.

It is amazing how many people out there are for Obama. They are all itching to ride the gravy train. Little do they know that the gravy train runs on the blood, sweat and tears of so many Americans. Lots of their hard earned cash will be used to “spread the wealth”. God save America.

Powell also claimed republicans are calling Obama a muslim, he knows McCain and the party have never gone anywhere near such a thing.

Powell says he does not want anymore GOP Supreme Court appointmnents. That says it all. This is about Colin Powell social liberal. NOT his area of expertise, ever.

His answer on national security was that Obama will surround himself with good people. Yeah, liberal democrats who have never supported any position of Colin Powell.

Powell: (in effect) It’s ok to lose missile defense, cut the military, and embolden our enemies so thata black president can “electrify the World”.

Powell Sticks It to McCain: a Person He Greatly Respects

Powell has now defined his sad legacy:

In the clutch, he comes out full-bore for
A community organizer and a plagiarist (Obama/Biden)
INSTEAD OF
A "brother in arms" and a lady that has (substantially) cleaned
up the politics of a significant state (McCain/Palin).

Don't expect me to do anything other than a perfunctory salute
(hopefully after a full life) when Powell passes from this life.

As your recounting of Powell’s statement demonstrates, all he did was essentially recite Democrat talking points.

His tone of voice seemed a little strange, like he was saying things he was told to say, not things he sincerely believed.

Powell said it wasn't about race - Powell is concerned about economics, supreme court nominees, and stading in the world - but when it looked like Hillary Clinton would be the nominee... from the FEC :

POWELL, COLIN L. THE HON.
MCLEAN, VA 22101
SELF-EMPLOYED/SPEAKER

MCCAIN, JOHN S.
VIA JOHN MCCAIN 2008 INC.
08/08/2007 2300.00 27931391281

It's NOT about race. I think he doesn't want a woman near the Presidency...
If those are his listed issues, then Hillary is closer to THE ONE than McCain is... He probably decided to do this after John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be the VP.

I think the General may be sexist... It may NOT have been about race.

The timing is key. Powell has made his views known for several months. Drudge has been teasing us for months with this. Powell has given speeches recently praising Obama and the fact a black President would be good for all Americans.

Back to the timing- why have Powell announce his support 16 days from election day instead of the weekend before? This allows McCain/ Palin time to recover. On top of this Obama buys air time on the 29th. Something isn't right.

IMHO, Obama has some polling data that scares him and he's responding to it. I also think the JTP issue is waking folks up.

Powell revealed himself today as a run-of-the-mill sellout. If he meant what he said about McCain he could have merely kept his silence. The excuses he offered for endorsing obama were limp. He sold out his longtime friend for cheap tacky racial cred and probably to avoid getting the anal treatment from the fascist 'rat character assassins.

I guess his ridiculous and embarrassing stage performance with the black street punks was a harbinger of things to come.

It was interesting that when national security was discussed Powell looked unconmfortable. Colin Powell has sold out to the liberal groups he works with and he wants to be part of an Obama administration.

His waiting till now shows he is playing games, he claims he didn’t decide till now.

If it’s still that close a decision in his liberal mind, VOTE MCCAIN!

He didn’t endorse Obama because he’s black, he endorsed him because he’s a freakin’ RINO, plain and simple. Powell disagrees with the Republican Party on 75% of the issues. There’s not hair’s breadth of difference between Powell and say, someone like Madleiene Albright on the issues other than that she’s probably more hawkish than he is.

I don’t think powell’s endoresement will mean that much.

powell will provide cover for some black soldiers here and there - to vote for obama but I don’t most will need any cover. I just don’t think there are any undecideds among blacks. they’re mostly going for obama.

its the white vote that might be affected by powell. but once again I don’t think that a black guy endorsing a black will have much affect there.

but I could be wrong.

Heck, some months back I didn’t think obama would get more than 40% of the national vote.

Powell has never struck me as a deep, political thinker, or as someone who is comfortable with conservatism. From a political point of view, his endorsement of Obama doesn’t surprise me. What does surprise me is how Powell could endorse a man who treats our soldiers with conceit and smugness. Maybe Powell is as ignorant as most other Americans when it comes to knowing who Obama really is, or maybe it’s just a black guy sticking with a black guy, a different ignorance.

Powell certainly has revealed his character over the lst couple of years. First, he knew but did not tell his boss, the President, who leaked the Valarie Plame story. Now, he endorses a fellow-traveller but says, this is not about race - this type of pre-stipulation always means it is about what is denied.

In a normal election, Powell’s announcement would have no impact on the media drive behind JTP, but even local news is promoting this as “the nail” in the McCain campaign.

McCain’s track record proves though - he and Davis aren’t marathoners — they’re sprinters.

Good ol’ Spastic Colin, who would have retired a full bird colonel if his, uh, appearance was different, has always been a snake. I respect his service in Vietnam, but that’s about it. I’ve never been a fan of his, and when he was being talked about for President, I cringed.

If there is any good side to all this, I think a lot of folks who didn’t have their eyes open before, have had them opened wide this past year. Once they start acting/reacting differently as a result, some other folks aren’t going to like it. It’s easy to have a “revolution” when only one side is fighting.
